Hey guys I'm new here. Does anyone know if Loyola University Chicago any good? I just got selected for this "Fast-Track Application" from them saying that I'm the type of student they want to see next year and that I can skip the essay, keep the 25 dollar application fee, and receive a decision and scholarship notification by March 1, 2005.

What is this university good for. I'm planning on majoring in the liberal arts area like history, philosophy, and political science.

Loyola is a fine school, academically speaking. Loyola is a Jesuit school and is very strong in philosophy and history (I don't know their reputation in political science). I believe that they are pretty good in the sciences, as well.

Loyola also has a strong social work program and is fairly well known for attracting a fair number of social justice activist types. Parts of the neighborhood around Loyola (particularly around Glenwood and the Heartland Cafe) have a definite alternative, crunchy vibe. The Heartland Cafe is kind of the hub of the neighborhood up there (you can check out Heartland's website at http://www.heartlandcafe.com/). Frankly, the area around Loyola is personally one of my favorite neighborhoods in Chicago.

The one negative thing that I have heard about Loyola is that the administration tends to be pretty beauracratic. Plus, they have experienced some financial problems in the last couple of years, according to a couple of articles I read in the Chicago Tribune. Frankly, I don't know if the financial problems are severe enough to compromise the education you would receive if you went there.

Hope this helps.
