ls 1 or ls 2

which ls should i take first?

background:
my high school bio, ap bio, was the last bio class i took. it was junior year in hs, so i don't remember much of it. my ap bio curriculum focused more on ls 2 stuff, cells, organs, and issues and also molecular stuff. we barely learned ecology stuff and material in ls 1.

my major counselor told me to take ls 1 first for a stronger base for ls 2. to what extent do you think this is necessary? ls 1 sounds a lot more boring than ls 2...

to me LS1 was a lot more boring. i went LS2-4, then 1. it doesnt really matter, thats why they dont require you to take LS1 before the others. i dont see LS1 material really helping much if at all in LS2-4. its all like evolution and darwin and marine animals and plants/trees. the only thing that may have been of some small value was the short part on classical genetics/mendel/alleles, which is towards the beginning of LS4 material.

just decide by professors, scheduling, what your friends are doing, etc. you'll have to take all 4 eventually anyways.

On the bright side, Greg Graffin teaches LS1 on occasion...

ls1 is not helping for ls2 ill tell you that

i would leave ls1 till your senior year after you apply to grad school. The class is boring and tedious, and could potentially jeopardize your gpa. you don't need ANY of the material in ls1 for ls2-4

lol yeah a lot of my friends have Graffin for LS1 this quarter =o. apparently he just kinda reads off a paper in the front of the class and is kinda boring ><.
but he's a rock star, so that's always cool ;]

and yeah I don't think it would hurt too much to take ls2 first... I haven't taken either, so I can't say for sure, but it seems like the ls2 topics are similar to AP bio. I'm EE, and I was even thinking of taking it.

i can't find the profs for next spring for ls 1 and ls 2. i looked at registrar. is there anywhere else i could find out? i think i'm gonna decide depending on the profs.

if it doesnt show yet, then it means its too early to think about it.

feb 4 is when the sched of classes for spring 08 comes out
i think you can wait =]. worry about ure current classes! ;]

argh still dunno whether i should take ls 1 or ls 2. phelan or gundersen for ls 2 v. shipe/zimmer for ls 1...what does that mean if there are 2 profs listed? do they rotate teaching every other lecture or what?

phelan actually remembers me from last year when i asked last fall. he was the first teacher i talked to at ucla when i visited as a high school student deciding on a college. wow, imagine taking his class. i think he's awesome. but zimmer has a slightly higher rating in bruinwalk.

so the counselors say to not trust bruinwalk. hmm. what do u think?

NOW IT'S DOWN TO THE PROFS. Ls 1 or ls 2. Is Ls 1 THAT difficult that i shouldn't take it until sr yr when grades don't matter as much?

btw i heard one doesn't need to read the txtbook in zimmer's ls 1 class in order to do well. is that true? if it is, it's a big deal cuz reading really SUCKS.

how much is reading necessary w/ the other profs i mentioned? any advice?

i had phelan for ls 15. granted, that wasn't a hard class to begin with, but phelan is an AMAZING lecturer who will make the material fun and easy. you'll like listening to him and he's quite entertaining. i also don't think he would be a difficult prof. and the fact that he remembers you just reinforces how awesome the guy is :)
