Okay, so I've never taken Calculus before. My senior math class was Pre Calc, and I got a B. Based on my Placement tests, I am placed into either M118 or 119. Looking into my schedule, I am in M119. I am looking at this syllabus and I have no idea. I think I am way in over my head... what should I do?

You can still drop the first week and try to add finite. Finite will get a lot of drops pretty soon.

Take Calculus this semester, especially if you’re worried about how prepared you are. The more time passes between pre calc and calc, the more difficult it will be.

If you are not a business major, you can just take calculus at community college next summer and transfer it to IUB to meet gen ed requirements. Chances are that calculus will be much easier at your community college than IU.

You can use the credit transfer service to see if a college in your area has a calculus class that will be accepted at IUB in lieu of M119.

That will also make your first semester at IU less stressful.

Bthomp1, is there a reason you qualified that by saying if you’re not a business major?

It is alright for some business majors. If you haven’t been admitted to Kelley, you need calculus or finite from IUB campus to apply to Kelley per the current admission rules for regular admission. If you are a direct admit, then finite and calculus from a cc is fine. My son is a direct admit and had to drop finite at IUB; but it was an easy class at Ivy Tech.

If you are not in Kelley, and you just need finite or calculus to meet the gen ed requirement, then for most majors taking one of them at a cc and transferring the credit to IUB is a good thing to do.

Hkem, I forgot to ask if you got into Kelley honors? Haven’t posted here for a while.

I did get accepted to Business Honors!

^^^Congratulations!

That’s awesome hkem!
