i am an incoming freshman at tufts and i was wondering if anyone could lend his or her insights on which type of computer is better suited for the environment at Tufts.

any and all insight is welcome and appreciated!

on another note, has another tried to set up a personal wireless router in their room? is it possible and/or have you been successful?

Hey! I was a freshman at Tufts last year and I bought a Mac for school and don't regret it one bit. Honestly though, it's really just up to your preference. Both PCs and Macs are supported on campus.

However, if you're in the School of Engineering, it might just be easier to go with a PC. For my engineering classes the last two semesters, we did all of our work on software that unfortunately is "Windows Only." Of course, there are relatively easy ways to run Windows on a Mac (which I did... everything worked fine), but if you don't want to go through that effort, then PC might be better.

As far as routers go, Tufts' IT department doesn't allow students to set up their own wireless networks. So naturally, I tried it anyway. I tried everything, but I couldn't get the router to connect to the internet. I'm by no means a computer whiz though, so it could still be possible...

when i first got to Tufts 4 years ago, I had a dell laptop. At the time, PC was still the way to go. In my final year at Tufts however, I saw many more mac laptops than PCs, though PCs continued to dominate in public computing spaces. I recently traded my dell for a MacBoook and I do not regret it at all.
