Yeah, looks awesome. However, I'm content with my old iBook (and the $1000 in my hand).

im content with my 15" g4 pbook. for 2500 i better be content!

Can it still run a Windows OS?

Yes, of course.

Choosing the black case over the white case costs $150. This is why I can't love apple.

"Choosing the black case over the white case costs $150. This is why I can't love apple."

A different color selection (unless maybe its a detachable faceplate) would cost more no matter what company... remember when the black pc first came out, yea that cost more.

... with that said. I just did a little more research on the macbook's graphics processor and it is completely worthless. So i must reiterate, anyone who wants to play games DO NOT buy the macbook and then start bad mouthing apple... go with the macbook pro

Slorg,

How is that any different from charging extra for a spoiler on a car?

Slorg, you can't be that dumb, can't you? myheartisinohio already provided the reasoning:

With that said, also if your looking at the black version b/c of its larger hard drive.. you can upgrade the 2.0 ghz white version to 80gb hd and 1gb ram and it will still be slightly cheaper than the black so its not really worth it...

No, I can't be that dumb. Thanks for asking, though. The price difference is $200. The black model has identical specs except for an 80 GB SATA HD. It costs $50 to upgrade the white model to an 80 GB SATA HD. $200 - $50 = $150 for a different color.

Yep, you pay more for a "nicer color."

Car manufacturers have done this for years, so why not computer manufacturers?

It's perfectly fine for Apple to do it. I might if I sold computers. However, the higher profit margins come at a cost: my feelings about Apple. I'd like it if they trimmed their margins on chaff like black color to give consumers more choices. As it stands, Apple is attempting to profit off of people who are too stupid to realize buying black is a waste of money. And I, a less stupid consumer, suffer because of that.

Slorg,

It's not the consumer being "stupid." It's a waste of money to YOU because the aesthetics don't matter. To some people, who might have a specific reason for the black laptop (let's say a reception area with a certain color scheme) the black may be warranted.

It's all about how much value the user receives on the margin.

Apple's business model is not Dell's model. Dell's model is "cheap and completely built-to-order." Apple builds their systems with limited variation for various reasons.

Because it's Apple. Hmm.

UCLAri,

It IS the consumer being stupid. Even if the decision is financially sound (e.g., the business it brings by matching the reception area, or the productivity boost that comes with peace of mind), it's still because of a wasteful, inefficient system that's costing lives. Apple kills babies.

Let's not debate this. Defining stupid would be the first step, and it would be an endless one.

Wow.

And you concluded this how?

They just do. Admit it.

Oh, you're right. Apple also caused World War II, and is the reason the Armenian Genocide happened.

wow... this argument has gotten so dumb that it isnt even an argument anymore, its just slorg babbling

To the OP, the black macbook is NOT made of the same glossy material that the black iPod is made of. The black macbook has a matte black finish, no glossyness included.

I bought a black macbook the morning it was announced, and it should be here pretty soon (shipped from China today). Do I see black as a waste of money? Do I see myself as a stupid consumer? Not at all. With the education discount, it didn't really matter to me. I had sold my old 15" pb for $2800 when the macbook pro was announced, so I had a lot to work with. I upgraded the HDD to 120GB and bought 2GB of RAM from newegg (Apple overcharges for their RAM by about $200).

So black macbooks have a premium price, so what? If you're into looks, and have the $$$ to spend, I don't see a problem with it.

Think of the unnecessary costs incurred by buying black. If you or Apple used that money to instead pay for vaccinations in Afghanistan, you could save the lives of baby. By not saving a baby's life, you're sentencing it to death. That is, Apple kills babies.

Starbucks kills more babies.
