so all capitalist companies kill babies?

whoever said you could put a graphics card into the macbook is lieing. you cannot upgrade the graphics card on the macbook. Also for the person who asked what express card was, it is basically the updated version of PCMCIA card slot. express card is not backwards compatable with pcmcia, but you are more future proof with express card.

Ok, I'm considering getting one of these. The whole color thing doesn't interest me because I like the white better anyway. As for the graphics, I have a feeling that I won't care about that, either, because I'm not a gamer, and probably the only things I would want to do would be upload photos from my camera, watch DVDS, use the internet, and write papers for school.

I guess what I want to know is, is there anything you can do on a PC that you can't on a mac? Can you run Microsoft Word on it, does it come with a photo editing program and how good is it? Also, how is the tech support? I'm pretty clueless..thanks in advance MacTech and others : )

You can run Microsoft Word on it

It comes with iLife '06 (which includes iPhoto). iPhoto gets the job done well for organizing/editing photos.

Tech support's really good. I know a couple of my friends have brought their laptops in and Apple just replaces them if something is wrong. For example, my friend brought Titanium Powerbook in (pretty old pb) and they replaced it with a brand new macbook pro.

Think of the unnecessary costs incurred by buying black. If you or Apple used that money to instead pay for vaccinations in Afghanistan, you could save the lives of baby. By not saving a baby's life, you're sentencing it to death. That is, Apple kills babies.

Right. Because economics is a zero-sum game.

Nobody said you could. Someone merely wondered if you could.

Big difference.

And actually, Microsoft Office 2004 is better than anything you can find on a Windows machine.

yes, surprisingly the mac version of microsoft office is better.

the mac tech support is very good. You might have trouble finding help in the school IT department if your school is all PCs, but the people at the mac stores at the genius bar are amazingly helpful. And you'd probably be able to find another mac user who could help you.

This morning on the ars technica website there's a excellent review of the new MacBook:

Plenty of strengths as compared to the old G4 IBook, but with some concerns as well:

A glossy screen that has bad reflection problems under bright florescent lights and a high heat problem that the Macbook Pro suffers from as well. And a funny keyboard key spacing issue.

If you're interested in the MacBook, it would pay to go to your Apple store to check it out....

Re: Office for the Mac

I recall reading some where that MS's profit margin on Office for the Mac was greater than Apple's profit margin on their G series laptops... The Evil Empire strikes again!

Damn that Microsoft for making a good product! If only Open Office weren't so darn hard to find support for!

Grr, and it doesn't even have that stupid arse paperclip!
