As ridiculous as this sounds, I made a mistake on the FAFSA by a whole order of magnitude. First off, am I in any trouble?

I only noticed cause I updated the FAFSA today.

For my Parents' Payments to Tax-Deferred Pensions & Retirement Savings, I put 22050 back in January. It is actually 2205.

Yes, I did recheck when I submitted back in January, multiple times actually, I have no idea how I missed it.

My EFC went from 13k to 5k.

I was thinking of sending letters to appeal my aid to many of my schools, should I still do that? Or should I wait for schools to receive my updated info?

geeeeeeeeeeeeez

If you’ve already received financial aid awards from these schools, contact them immediately (by phone or by email), notify them of the correction, and ask if they’re able to reconsider your award. Ask if they need you to file a formal appeal, or if the updated FAFSA is sufficient.

Yes, contact the colleges.

If the colleges do NOT meet full need for all, it might not make any difference.

don’t feel too bad. I did something similar a couple of years ago, and it was the 4th time that I had to complete fafsa (so I can’t claim it was a rookie mistake).

Just submit the fafsa for processing, and notify the school(s); e-mail is probably best, so they can pull your fill and re-examine it. In our case, it was a Profile school, so they did adjust the aid number.
