Made a HUGE Mistake

I got accepted to both Boston University and SUNY Binghamton University. However, I sent in a deposit to BU only. Now after discussing financial matters in detail, BU is too expensive. Binghamton sent me a letter 2 days ago, telling me they withdrew my acceptance!! Is there something i can do at this point to get this acceptance back. Someone please help. I’m pretty desperate.

Guns and Roses Girl - You still have a chance. Call them first thing the next morning tomorrow morning. It is Saturday, so they are probably not open, but there is a small chance someone who is high up enough will be there. If that doesn't work, can first thing on Monday morning.

I mean first thing!!! Call at 8 am sharp. Show you want it. Speak confidently, not in a panicked way, and ask to talk to the highest up person you can. They will take you, but only if you play your cards right.

Good luck.

Ericmeng, good advice.

thanks eric, i really appreciate your help. i'll give the admissions department a call and i'll see how it goes.

How could they withdraw your acceptance? They couldn't have your final transcript yet. Did your grades take a serious dive on the mid-year transcript?

no, it's bc i didn't make a deposit by may 1st

yeah, some schools automatically revoke your admission if you dont' make their enrollment deadline. unc-ch did that to me (i wasn't planning on going there, tho; just didn't send in my reply card early enough to "reject" them first).

Guns and Roses Girl - How did it go?

All the schools that I sent in my "Sorry I've chosen another school" letters to sent me a letter saying if my plans are to change within a year to call and they may be able to work things out. I got specific names and numbers. I'm not sure what that really means... I would think it just means they keep my portfolio on file but I'm not sure. I would call and plead! Good luck!

some schools do keep your file open for at least a year in case you wanna transfer. i know northwestern does 'coz it says that in their reply card.

It's my understanding that not all colleges offer everyone an "invitation" to consider transferring after a year (i.e., also leaving the applicant's file open for a year or two). While it is more common for those they've accepted and have opted for another school, what's even more encouraging is extending that same "invitation" to those whom they rejected to apply as a transfer after a year. It means that they almost made the cut, but want to see how well they do with a college curriculum and that they want them on campus after a year getting their academic act together. Any comments?

BUMP for further comments --

It is true that Northwestern does that, b/c when I got the postcard after I withdrew my admission, NW said that they would keep my file open and I could tranfer to them provided I tell them which quarter I would like to enter.
