I recently took the test and was placed in online arc 35, I mean I know I didn’t do too good but I didn’t expect to be this bad (currently in pre calc). Should I retake it or just accept my score since I obviously know less than I thought and this is a placement exam. Also, how/when do you start the online course?
I definitely encourage a retake of the MAE. The class you were placed in is called Online ARC 35 and the subject that is taught is Intermediate Algebra. Since you are currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus it would not make too much since to backpedal. Depending on your major, this might effect the amount of extra classes you will be required to take to complete your BS or BA.
Since you have already taken the MAE and are familiar with the type of questions on the test, I recommend that you take a month or two off and brush up on the concepts tested (Trig, Logarithms, Identifying graphs). One resource I personally used was the practice test online (write topics or questions that you miss and ask for help). Each problem you get incorrectly you should know why and how the problem should be solved. Don’t be afraid to ask a teacher or anyone who might know how.
There will be a MAE right before every orientation date in July or August, plan on taking that.
A strong word of caution: Don’t learn NEW materials when reviewing, you should only be brushing up on the concepts that you might have forgotten. If you “learn” a lot of new concepts you might struggle in more advanced math classes such as Calculus. Aim for at least MATH 5, which is Pre-Calculus.
I wish you the best in your future academic endeavors.
You got this!
@mustang1232 thank you very much!!
@mustang1232 How do we sign up for the MAE that will be held before orientation?
