The on-line system gives you an option to submit the main application prior to the supplement. Is there any benefit to doing this, what with Pitt having rolling admissions? My D intends on submitting some supplemental material, some of which will not be ready to submit for 2 to 3 weeks. Should she submit the main application now, or wait and submit everything together closer to the end of October? She hopes to get some merit aid, and it is our understanding that the sooner you apply, the better your chances are for merit aid.
Thanks!

To my knowledge, you still have to mail in your HS transcript to have your application be “complete”. So, until that is done, Pitt won’t begin reviewing an application. Not sure if you’ve done that yet or not. If you have, then as soon as they get everything from the main application, they will begin reviewing (maybe not right away, but you have no idea of knowing). Since the turnaround is generally about 2 weeks, I’d wait to have everything ready before submitting.

My son submitted his online application a couple days before his supplemental information and his letter of recommendation 2 weeks later. You will be able to see what is missing when your daughter logs into to check the application status. My son also emailed the supplemental info (essay & activites resume) for which Pitt sent back an email saying they received it. The transcripts although sent via U.S. mail by the school was taking too long so I called Pitt admissions and they said it could be faxed so that is what the school did. Anyways, as long as you clearly mark all the supplemental info being sent with your daughters name and birthdate then it will be put into her file when they come in. I also called admissions several times to make sure everything was received. Good luck!

Don’t remember where, but I was told that, because Pitt doesn’t require essay or recommendations, it was best to send those in with or prior to all the other stuff because they could review the full app before the extras are received.

Thanks everyone! I think we will try and submit the main app and supplement together, since the supplement does allow you to indicate what types of additional materials you will be sending so that way admissions has some idea of whether the entire application package is complete or not. Sujormik, glad to know that you were able to call admissions and get information on what had been received to date – nice to know the option exists!

Full disclosure, my D has been making all these contacts herself, I haven’t talked to anyone!
