maintaining your marks

what's up. I was accepted to nyu and was wondering how much i can slack, and let my marks drop now that i'm in.

don’t be stupid and do so little work you fail. Cs are okay.

i know someone who failed three classes because he was so lazy and had his acceptance revoked from JHU. but he was an idiot. don’t be him! lol.

Anything above a C is acceptable. I suggest you should not reach for a C because you can easily fail it. Just maintain above a 3.0 or 85, you’re fine.

is 3.0 weighted or unweighted?
is 2C’s in AP classes
and B’s elsewhere acceptable?

Just keep it high. Don’t let senioristis get you. So far, I only know of those who failed a class or got C minus or lower (less than 75/100) for a single class or more got their admission rescinded. Multiple grades with C or C+ may not hurt but just in case keep them high. NYU does not use unweighted grades. In fact, on the admission forums there was a post I remember that they stated they re-calculated your grades to their unweighted grades.

Does NYU look at semester grades or the overall year grade? So if you get C- in semester but the overall is C/C+ would they rescind your admission? Also, what about classes like theatre? Do they really care?

From what I know, the most important thing is that you can graduate. The NYU guide pretty much made this pretty clear when I toured NYU 2 years ago when I am still looking for colleges. After all, if you cannot graduate you cannot attend college.

The last thing you want is a poor class grade. It seriously shows you slack off and only cared only enough about school just to get into college but not about your education.
A C- is considered passing at NYU but a college course at NYU with a grade of C- or lower will not be considered completed for any major/minor or any pre-med/pre-law program.

I am not so sure about theatre but I did failed gym in my last semester. However, I was able to get all 100s and 90s in my other classes. Gym does not get averaged in my overall high school average so maybe that’s why. I doubt NYU cares if the class is pretty useless and/or does not get averaged in. I am not too sure about theatre, it sounds like something that Tisch would care but not the other colleges.

It’s still early for high school students to improve their grades, at least those on the East side of the US. Keep it high as possible. Better safe than sorry.
