Major Change

How hard is it to change your major at Davis?

As easy as going into the major's advising office, sitting down and talking about your plans/course work that you will need to take once you change, signing a few papers, and turning some other papers into the dean's office. Just make sure you have above a 3.0 (some majors require different gpas) and its your 2nd quarter. There are also some prereq courses that you have to take in order to change to certain majors. Lets just say it took me more time to find my dean's office than to fill out the paperwork -______-.

Can you change your major during Orientation Day? (If you're an entering Fall Freshman)

As bmbmasta said, you can only do it after one full quarter at UC davis.

That is not what I have heard from many people. I'll just ask anyway when I go there, lol. (Change of career plans, so therefore I want to change my major & emphasis.) :)

Well I don't know what you've heard from other people, but the registrar clearly says you can't declare or change major until after your first full quarter.

"You are free to change your major at any time after completing your first quarter, and most UC Davis students do so at least once during their academic careers."

Why would they make you take a quarter of classes that won't benefit your intended major (the major that you want to change to)?

Umm... you can take any classes you want. Just because you're in a different major doesn't mean you can't take classes for another major. I'm a Political Science major and I'm taking biology classes, math classes, and chem classes because I'm switching to BioSci later on.

Well for a certain career profession you have to take certain classes, so I just think it would be a waste of time. Anyway, hopefully I get a 30 on my I.B. diploma so I can be a sophomore, and ergo, I will be able to change my major faster since I would not have to take all of those PreReq. courses.

They don't enter the ap/ib credits until midway through the first quarter, so you will be a freshman like everyone else. There isn't a way to get around the first quarter wait time. Transfer students (juniors) also have to wait the full quarter before changing.
