"Major" News About Major Changes?

Wassup everyone,

Congratulations to everybody who got accepted into UC Davis! I’m going to be a freshman undergrad,

I was wondering if I can change my major before Fall 2012 semester starts…
I got admitted as a Psychology major, but realize I might want to change it to Exercise biology.

Can anyone chime in and tell me how we go about changing majors? I hope this doesn’t slow me down too much…

Nope, you have to wait until winter quarter to change your major. Changng your major is pretty easy. If the major you want to switch to is in the same college as your previous major, all you have to do is obtain a change of major petition and get it signed by your old advisor and your new advisor; I’m not sure if the dean’s signature would be necessary in this case. If the major you want to switch you is in a different college, then not only would you need signatures from your old and new advisors, but you would also need signatures from the dean of your old college and the dean of your new college.

BTW, UC Davis is on a quarter system, not a semester system.

Thank you!

So in terms of simplicity, it can be done in no time, once I’m done with my first quarter?

Btw, does this mean my first quarter will be a waste of time, or will I knock out some of the things I need for exercise biology?

You hear it all the time, people saying “Most likely, you will change your major, dont worry about changing, etc.” but you don’t think it’ll happen to you

You can knock out some of the courses you need for exercise biology during your first quarter–here are the requirements for the Exercise Biology major: http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/UCDWebCatalog/programs/NPB/NPBreqt.html</a>. You do not have to take courses for your current major.

And yes, it can be done in no time. One of my suitemates changed from majoring in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Biochemistry, to majoring in Animal Science. Once you get your change of major petition signed and submitted, generally, it takes around 3 weeks for the system to reflect changes (but you’d still be in the exercise biology program regardless of the wait since you’ve already got the form filled out).

and here are the courses/details for the psychology major (P.S. I’m looking at B.S.) [UC Davis General Catalog | Psychology Requirements](http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/UCDWebCatalog/Programs/PSC/PSCreqt.html)

So pretty much, since in one quarter I am only doing some preparatory subject matter and both majors have similar courses, the major change really doesn’t affect me at All?

By the way, what are You majoring in?

I’m majoring in Animal Science.

No, it shouldn’t.
