Major Help! Sophmore CCC Transfer Dilemna! Major Recommended Preparatory Courses

Hello I am currently a student at GCCC and I am starting my 3rd semester in community college.

So here is my situation: I am 9th on the wait-list for a Gen Chem I class and might not get in. I plan to apply for UCSD for Chemical Engineering this fall. If I fail to get in the class and take it next semester, would I have to wait a year to take Gen Chem II or can I still get in the major and take it at UCSD?

I have a 3.75 gpa and have 30 units left to take this year to fulfill 60 units. In addition, I have two more classes to finish IGETC requirements.

I guess to sum it up:

Do I have to take all the preparatory courses to get into the major of chem. eng? Is it okay if I only haven’t taken one preparatory course?

A counselor told me I didn’t have to do the IGETC, and that I only had to have the requirements on this page (https://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfers/requirements.html). Is this true?

Is there a number for a UCSD advisor for transfer students on who I can talk to about this?

Thank you to whoever responds!!!

Oh and one final question. How do AP credits fit into this? I read on another forum that AP exams add units to your total units? I got a 3 on my AP CALC AB in high school.

IGETC is only recommended to complete before transfer but it does not affect admissions if you have a few that have not been completed. What you need to complete are the classes required for your major at UCSD which can be found on their website or you can go to assist.org and it will show you what classes you need. Any required classes have to be completed by the end of the spring term so if you don’t get in to it for the fall semester you still have time. You can always see if the class is offered through UCSD Extension or try to take it at another school.

Thank you

Update: I have everything sorted out. I went to a counselor today and he told me to stay in the class and wait for two weeks and see if I get in. In the meantime I am enrolled in a GE class just in case I don’t make it in the chem class.
