Would SJSU accept me for either major? I did not put undeclared on my Application, would I have needed to done that for them to accept me for undeclared? If I had to, then at this point do you think it is too late?
SJSU admits by eligibility index and major. Since you are applying for Engineering there is a special EI calculation below:
To calculcate the COE impaction index, you will need to calculate a total SAT score (math and EBRW) in the following way:
a. For SAT scores from a test date after March 1, 2016:
[(SAT Math * 3) + (EBRW)]/2 = COE total SAT score
Once you have a total SAT score from step 1 above, put that total SAT score in to the CSU eligibility index equation to calculate the COE impaction index for SJSU:
[SAT Score Total + (GPA * 800)] = COE impaction index
GPA= CSU GPA
Below are the EI thresholds from last year so you can compare:
For those who did not meet the individual major’s impaction threshold, but who met the CSU eligibility criteria, SJSU offered admission to the applicant’s alternate major in sufficient numbers to meet the capacity for that major. Preference was given to local applicants who will graduate from a high school in Santa Clara County through a 0.2 GPA increase when we calculated the EI for all majors.
For CSU eligible applicants who did not meet the impaction thresholds below, the applicant’s Fall 2017 application was withdrawn as unaccommodated. Applicants in this category met minimum CSU eligibility requirements but did not meet the individual major’s impaction threshold.
Non-residents of California, including international students, needed to earn an eligibility index of 3502 using the SAT exam or an eligibility index of 842 using the ACT exam. For majors requiring a higher eligibility index, non-residents must have met the higher standard.
The EI threshold does fluctuate from year to year so if you are close, you have a chance. If your EI is far off then your chances are much less. They may consider your alternate major if you meet that EI threshold.
“If you do not meet the minimum EI for the program listed as your first choice, but do meet the minimum EI for Undeclared, you’ll have the option of being admitted Undeclared. This will require you to undergo a Change of Major into your intended major.”
So because of this I just chose EE and BioMed. Is this still true for 2018? If not why is this there…
This is what SJSU states about alternate majors and changing majors if accepted Undeclared.
:::;::::::::::::
We encourage you to apply for the major in which you intend to earn a degree. Change of major is prohibited during the application and admission process. After you are admitted, change of major is never guaranteed and is by petition only. Your mandatory orientation, advising and registration will all be based on your choice of major.
You must enter an alternative major on your application to SJSU. Beginning with the fall 2018 admission cycle, we will consider the alternate major for those applicants who did not meet the impaction threshold to their first choice major. We will only admit to alternate majors if there is additional capacity for new student enrollment in that major.
Note, however, that if you enroll as undeclared or in an alternate major, if you try to later switch into a more impacted major, you may have to meet a high college GPA threshold.
