Majors Affect Chances of Acceptance

I've heard that colleges also take into account which Major you are entering as. I want to go to UCI for undergrad school (BUSINESS). Ive heard that you can declare as one major when applying, and then once you're in you can change. So my question is, is this true at all? And if so, what major should I apply as, or in other words which majors do they want? If you want stats let me know.

just wondering , but are you thinking of getting a phd in some field of business or perhaps an MBA? and also regarding changing your major in/during college, the only problem that may come along with that is that you’re going to have to “apply” for the program for that major later in your college career…as in a transfer of majors isn’t just “oh hey i want to do this now and the office says sure” it’s more like “i want to do this now and you submit your current grades in college and from there they decide if you will be placed in that school’'s undergrad business program” BUT if you have already selected a major prior to entering college, you’ll be sent to that program right away (that is if you do get accepted)

I know the for Bus. Admin, they accept 10% as transfers which is ~15 people since they cap their major. I’m not sure what it is for Business Info. Management, and I know that Bus. Econ is an easy major to get in.

Like saxguy said, it’s more of an application process. You’d have to keep your GPA very competitive, such as over 3.7/3.8.

Thats why they have you decide 2 majors when you apply. 1 Primary major, and 1 alternative major.

My advice to you: 1. Business Admin, 2. Business Econ.

But what if you went as undecided? If u get accepted, then would it be easy to declare the business major or would they kick you back out since it’s an impacted major?

No it isn’t easy to go in as undecided, and then try to apply. Best bet is to apply as business admin, and have an unimpacted major as your alternative.

Then again, if you know you want to study business, it’s safer to just get into a school where you know you can study business at. If you’re not completely sure, then going undecided is a great way to explore your options.

major selection impacts decisions.

business administration is rather hard to get into as an incoming freshman, a transfer student and a change of major applicant.

If you really want to major in it though, there is a way to backdoor your way in. simply take all the core classes during the summer sessions. You can begin doing this even before you start as a freshman.

Normally you’re required to take certain prerequisites for courses. In my experience, this hardly matters with all business school courses other than accounting.(I presently have only As and A+ in my management courses)

The requirements are
A. Lower-Division: Mathematics 2A-B, Economics 20A-B, Management 7, 10, 30A, 30B.
B. Upper-Division Core: Management 101, 102, 105, 107, 109, 110.
C. Business Electives: 10 upper-division Merage School electives*

Section B is what’s hard to knock out. The rest one can take during the year(somewhat impacted still)

if you don’t want to risk possibly being unable to complete your curriculum(which can be easily done over 2 or 3 summers without any need for courses during the year) consider business economics, quantitative economics or taking a minor in management or accounting. FYI most of the time employers don’t care what your major is so long as it’s close. Some things there are practical restrictions on(accounting firms want applicants with an accounting background, engineering firms want engineering backgrounds) careers but most of the time employers look at GPA before they look at major. Just be relevant.
