Malanai, are you OK?

Just saw the news about the Japanese quake and tsunami…warning for Hawaii, etc. Are y’all OK?

Just logged in to ask the same thing. Sending out good thoughts that you, your family and fellow Hawaiians are safe and damage is minimal. In this case, let’s hope for a minimal Roll Tide!

Stay safe all of our Hawai’i friends!

The first thing I thought when they mentioned Hawaii was MALANI! They may be dealing with power outages, but hopefully he will post as possible to put our minds at ease.

So far so good. The ocean has receded and surged 3x but nothing huge yet. Still have a few hrs to go til we’re out of the woods. Will keep you posted.

Thanks for your concern.

We are all thinking of you and sending only good thoughts towards you and Hawaii! May your family and friends stay safe. Roll tide.

I’ve been watching coverage of this all morning. I hope all other places avoid the devastation that hit Japan. It is so horrifying to see all this.

Have to say this - but in retrospect I’m glad we didn’t take the move to Japan. I can’t imagine dealing with something like this when you don’t speak the language. The photos/videos are stunning.

AL34 - we are too!

malanai - so glad to see all of you are safe! Hope the islands fare well! The people of Japan are in my prayers…

Once again, thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I’m sure that Rose808, our newest Hawaii compatriot, echoes these sentiments.

All things considered, the Hawaii tsunami was a minor event, especially when compared to what happened in Japan. Civil defense did a great job evacuating the coastlines and tsunami flood zones. There was some damage here in the islands, but nothing catastrophic. Kahului, on the island of Maui, may have caught the biggest waves.

Glad to hear you are okay, Malanai. I hope we hear from Rose808 today, as well. Scary stuff.
I hesitate to say it today, but - roll tide

Thank you all for your concern! We too are fine. Our house is up on a hillside, so we had friends who came to our house, dropped their cars off at our house.

However, our D’s bff, who is one of the girls going to Bama with her next year, is from Japan. They have reached most of her family and it sounds like they are safe. There are still a couple people they haven’t reached yet, though, so please keep them in your prayers.

Thanks again everyone for your well wishes :)

Aloha

Thanks goodness, all our friends in Hawaii are safe. Let’s pray that there are no more disasters in Japan, closely following the nuclear news.

Glad to hear that you’re safe!

Now we all need to pray for those in Japan who now have the additional concern about nuclear radiation issues. The news said that even the US west coast (and likely Hawai’i ) could be affected by that as well.

Whew, so glad to hear from Malanai and Rose. Been SO WORRIED about you guys.

Will be keeping y’all in my prayers.

Also thinking of our California/PNW friends. Hoping they are safe as well.

^^^Thanks, Montegut. We realize how fortunate we are, especially when viewing pictures such as the one linked below, which shows a home swept out to sea by the tsunami at Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island.
