So obviously a silly thing to base a college decision on, but I was just wondering if the male to female ratio was getting increasingly closer. Right now most sources report that the ratio is 63-37, which is good for a tech school, but I also saw in an article that the M:F ratio for the incoming class of 2021 was 57:43 (VERY good for tech school).
I in no way shape or form would ever make this a deciding factor in my decision but I was just curious as to the new trends.
It is quickly getting closer over time. In the last ten years the number of undergraduate women at Tech has increased more than 50% from 3,877 undergraduate women for the 2008-2009 academic year to 5,915 for the 2017-2018 academic year. The number of undergraduate men has remained mostly flat. Tech had about 9,100 undergrad men a decade ago and has around 9,657 today. So there is still a pretty big gap; for the 2017-2018 year the undergraduate student population was 62% male and 38% female. Like the article you saw mentioned, most recent incoming freshmen cohorts have been greater than 40% female, but older cohorts and transfer students tend to have a higher concentration on men than the more recent classes.
