March 10 decisions...

hmm....i believe the rejections letters may go something similar to, "this year we recieved a record-breaking/unusually large/enormously competetive batch of remarkable applicants....we are sorry to inform you...

something like that.

on the other hand, the happy letters willl go like "congrats" or "we are pleased to inform you"...

good to be prepared. expect the best but prepare for the worst.

bearcats, what courses did you take at andover?

Don't worry, I've never heard of anyone being rejected by a BS summer program.

Got a postcard from SPS a couple of days ago. It said that we would be able to learn of the decisions online at 3 p.m. EST Saturday March 10th on their MySPS website.

Hi does anyone know if Deerfield has online decisions ? I just wanted to check because I live in China so it would take forever to receive it through mail. or it could be lost/returned and stuff.

yeah, how much longer will it take for asian students to recieve their decisions by mail?

You don't have to wait for the mail to arrive if it takes forever. Most schools have a "dead period" where they won't release decision information by phone, but after that period ends (at some schools it is Thursday, March 15...or Thursday night for China, while at others there's no "dead period" or none as a practical matter, such as St. Paul's which will give out phone information at 8 am on Monday, March 12). Some schools even have an earlier time to call for international students. If you PM the schools you're interested in, I will call and ask the offices and let you know the policies. But...please...first try and see if you can find out yourself through the web site, prior mailings from the schools, and checking back here to see what other people say.

Correction to the above...yes, if you send a PM to ME with the schools you're interested in, I will make some calls. I agree with one person who did send a PM to me that I wasn't clear about that. And they're correct and very diplomatic about broaching that...because I concocted a grammatical mess!

This morning I checked with AEDC about INTERNATIONAL application decision announcements and, in addition to mailings (FedEx for acceptances in some cases), there will be an e-mail and/or on-line process to learn of the decision by the evening of March 10 (Eastern Time). You can call by March 15 if you don't hear from them by then. And do not fear if you haven't yet received the information about on-line access for these schools. One will send an e-mail on 3/10 with the on-line access information. Another sent a letter late last week with password and other access information.

Does anybody know how st mark's communicates their decisions?

Two years ago it was by snail mail. Not sure if it is still the same.

good research.a little clarification needed:E has been the last hold out with the use of snail mail for US admits...what was their response to your call?

I only asked about international notification. If I recall correctly, they're using FedEx (that's the part I'm not positive about) and an on-line access specifically for international students using LionLinks.

Francis:
good research.a little clarification needed:E has been the last hold out with the use of snail mail for US admits...what was their response to your call?

I'm fairly certain Taft still only uses USPS and letters are not postmarked until 3/10l Anyone know otherwise?

A number of schools still use snail mail postmarked March 10th. So applicants, don't feel that all is lost if you don't hear from all your schools on March 10th.

It seems crazy to persist in using snail mail for acceptance letters when a) some applicants will be under the impression that no news is bad news; b) the applicants will be scheduling revisits to schools they hear from; c) the applicants may schedule other revisits on dates that conflict with that school; and d) there is bound to be a decrease in yield for all of the above reasons. And I think that would be true, just to a lesser extent, even for Exeter.

One of the reasons I posted revisit days in another thread is so applicants don't inadvertently schedule a revisit on top of the dates set aside for a school that's taking it's good ol' time to notify applicants.

For those who live farther away, the mail will only take longer. And in those cases creating a revisit itinerary to 2 or 3 schools may be difficult. I don't get it, but I'm sure that there's a method to their madness by clinging on to the snail mail acceptance letters postmarked on March 10.

i m pretty sure acceptance go overnight and rejections go snail mail...becoz i remember knowing all the acceptance almost right away...and i didnt hear from deerfield for like a week, so i called them, and they told me i didnt get in...i got the mail like 2 days after

bearcats - Were you in Hong Kong at that time? I think many schools use a different process for international applicants because snail mail takes a long time overseas. At least, this is what I observed from following this board last year.

Yeah, I think it's in this thread that I posted the plans for notifying international students -- direct from the people who will be taking care of the mailings -- and they are all providing expedited notification...even in those cases where the U.S. applicants will have to wait for snail mail. Just for example, international students at Exeter and Andover are receiving access information to get decisions on the evening of March 10 (Eastern Time)...while there's no on-line notification for domestic applicants.

Thank you D'yer Maker. I just received a letter yesterday from andover with user/pass for me to check whether i get accepted or not online. It's only for international students though. its also kinda weird cause deerfield's music program just sent me something to fill out. Isn't it like kinda late though at this time. I mean, they only have a few days until acceptances come. I still sent it back though through express mail.
