March 2nd-postmarked or in by?

I am applying for a scholarship and the deadline is March 2nd. My teacher has not filled out my letter of rec. form, so I won't be able to send it until tom. So does it have to be postmarked before March 2nd, or do they have to get the packet before the date?

If it doesn't clearly state "postmarked by..." then I'd assume they should have it in their hands by March 2. Could be wrong, but I wouldn't want to take a chance. You can always mail overnight or if it's near enough to home hand deliver. I did that yesterday with one for my daughter - didn't want to trust a March 1 deadline to the mail so I hand delivered.

^^

Um, I thought that "postmarked by..." meant the postmark date would have to be that date.

When it says "received by..." that's the date they should have it in their hands.

I always go with postmarked. But that's because I'm a procrastinator. It has worked for me though.

I'd think opposite........deadline is when they need it in their hands unless it clearly states POSTMARKED> Still.....send it in any way. If in doubt, overnight it. Or hand deliver is close enough
