Hi, here is my essay. I will mark the essays of the first two people who give me meaningful comments on things I did well and things I could fix. Thank you in advance!

Assignment: should people take more responsibility for solving problems that affect their communities or the nation in general?

Individuals have a certain limit on how much they can affect their communities or the nation. It is often futile for an ordinary individual to affect such a large scale because they do not have the resources. However, only when an individual has worked their way up to a position of affluence can he or she truly change their environment and others.
For example, take the power of an ordinary individual to do as mundane of a job as road construction. An individual simply does not have the money or resources to complete such a grand project. Some may argue that the individual can simply fundraise money. However, this is obviously not feasible as road construction costs millions. As well, some in the community may disagree with such a project and not contribute to it.

Winston in the book 1984 shows the futility of the individual. He tries to fight against the power of the totalitarian government by planning to join an underground militant group called the brother in order to overthrow the government,. His lover, Julia, has also tried to fight the government internally by corrupting party members. Winston has the image of a picturesque future where the posterity does not have to live under the suppression of the government. However, he ultimately discovers that his rebellious acts were useless as a member of the government, OBrien, who tortures Winston tell him. OBrien say that if Winston represent the hope of men, he is the last men standing to represent this hope, meaning that Winston is alone in his unorthodox beliefs against the party. OBrien then tortures Winston to make him orthodox to the party. Winston ultimately looses all his heretic thoughts and urges to rebel.

However, Winston was simply an ordinary citizen who has little affluence over his surroundings due to his low social standings. On the other hand, individual who has a lot of power can change not only their nation but al the globe. Bill Gates in an example of a man with enormous power due to the wealth he has accumulated. Because of this, he has the ability to help impoverished people. For example, he used his wealth to purchase vaccines for people in developing countries in order to immunize them against certain diseases. It is through the vaccines in which he purchased that helped to mitigate and eradicate the spread of some diseases.

Thus, people do not always have the power to affect their community of nation. When the individual is incapable of creating a change, the onus lies on the government to do so. It is the government that has what ordinary people lack: resources, money and manpower. It is simple to say that people should take more responsibility in their communities. However, it is important to think about the feasibility of this. The government is not a panacea to all an individuals problems though it is needed to help solve problems that are beyond the hands of the individual.
