Does everyone now know that the Life Sciences are under the LEP designation? That means it is more competitive to be admitted as a life science major (Bio., Chem., etc)

Just putting that out there…

Barcelona808… im pretty confident that we should all hear by the end of january, the specific date i am unsure about though. Also we will hear fastest by looking at the ‘admitted students’ section on UMD’s website… it tells you how to navigate to a page to see your application status. When UMD makes a decision about you, that will be the first place that it will be available. However, you will hear through snail mail although at a later date. Good luck to everyone! This sounds like a great applicant pool!

My neighbor who is actually an admissions counselor at UMD told my friend they start mailing stuff out the 26 of January.

^ Why would your neighbor tell your friend and not you :p

If they’re mailing stuff out on Jan 26, can we expect them to be online a couple of days before that?

^ I would assume as much, however i am applying now too and all that i have said is simply what i have heard from previous applicants. So maybe this year we will hear through snail mail first!

Someone mentioned specialty schools before…
what are the specialty schools and why are they “special”
because my intended major is criminology and criminal justice (an LEP) — would that be a specialty school?

^ “Specialty” was a broad term to use. What that means is that all LEPs usually have lower number of undergraduate students, are more close-knit, more challenging, and more competitive.
