I see that we have an acceptance for at least one of the Music Major regulars, so it is time to start this year's list. I suggest that we use last year's format unless anyone has any suggestions for improvement. If you do not feel confident of your ability to cut and paste the prior message and add your own data, simply post your own data in any format you like and one of us will eventually get around to formatting it for you.

DS just heard that he has been admitted to Oberlin (B.M. Voice Performance) under the early review process. He (and we) is (are) very excited!!!

Great news! My daughter is a senior performance major in double bass at Oberlin if you have any general questions. Keep those acceptances coming, folks.

Thanks to all of the support and information that this discussion provides for those of us trying to find our way through the maze of trial lessons, prescreening CDs, auditions, etc. This CC site made a huge difference in our ability to get DS well positioned for the top conservatories, and I truly appreciate the time that the "old-timers" like BassDad put into this discussion.

Hi Juggling Mom- BIG Congratulations to your son, I know what a difficult process it can be to get into a music conservatory. Did you hear for Oberlin early by US mail or e-mail? I see several posts that results are being sent out and know of another student that heard yesterday (rejection) by US mail from Oberlin's early review for my S's instrument, but no news here yet. Perhaps it takes longer to get a letter out to the West coast. Hope to hear one way or another tomorrow so we can move on to the next step whatever that will be.
Flutetalk

My daughter's response from Oberlin early review came first in email and a couple of days later in US mail four years back. It could be that the easier decisions go out first and they take a little longer on some of the harder calls, or that the ones who are getting merit scholarships have to collect another signature or two before being sent out.

We got an email from the Director of Admissions regarding DS's offer of admission. This is followed by a snail-mail letter. My sense is that those with deferrals or rejections are just getting a letter. The email did not have any info regarding merit scholarships, so presumably that comes in the letter. Hope this helps.

Bluepearl, congratulations on your D's acceptance at Oberlin. You may have seen in thread that my S has heard nothing, though another flute student got a letter (rejection) 3 days ago. Juggling Mom indicated her S got an e-mail letter from Oberlin followed up by a letter. Is this how it worked for you? Our US mail came today with no letter and still no e-mails either. Anyone else who can chime in about this is also appreciated. Is it unusual on the same instrument to send out responses at different times to different students? I LOVED Bass Dad's idea that they were taking extra time in replying to work out his merit scholarship - I wish!

Bluepearl Thanks for reading my mind - you were apparently replying to my questions at the same time I was composing it. I am still wondering about telling different students on the same instrument at different times - does anyone know if this is unusual?

I think it happens more often in an early review situation than it does with regular decision. The definite acceptances and the definite rejections are quick decisions and I think they are usually handled first. Then they have to decide how many of the boderline applicants they will accept now and how many they want to defer so they can see what the regular decision field looks like before making any further decisions. Emails and letters should be forthcoming very soon because today was the official last day of the semester and I bet they try pretty hard not to have to make the teachers and admissions staff stay into the break.

Flutetalk, that was my question too. Different instruments are heard by completely different faculty and may well have different timings in terms of decisions and notifications.
Good luck to everyone who is still waiting for decisions and scholarships and congratulations to those lucky enough to have heard good news already!
