Master List of Music School Acceptances, Fall 2009

I am pretty sure that they sent merit scholarship information with the initial email four years back. They may have changed things since then, however, so don't assume that you are not going to get merit money if it was not mentioned in your email.

My son was accepted (reg decision) last spring with merit award. He received an email, but money decision came in the follow-up letter which, as I recall, took quite a bit longer.

I think it's safe to imagine that the timing for different instruments may not always be the same. I'm pretty sure I remember hearing this last year. Also, some schools don't inform everybody at the same time and may stagger their decisions for a variety of reasons.

Thanks for starting this! I'd just like to amend it to indicate that my S wants to major in music (with a focus on composition). We are really grateful for all the advice we've received here.

My son learned of his acceptance to Oberlin for Fall 2009 via an email. That email mentioned that snail mail would follow, but he got another email today, prior to receiving any snail mail, with the announcement of a merit award. The second email mentioned that a letter would be arriving soon in the mail, but the Director of Conservatory Admissions also included everything in attachments. I'm so proud of these kids for what they go through to apply as music majors. It's so intense. It's like applying twice over to every single college. And the auditions ... these kids are impressive.

Finally got letter (mailed to us 8 days ago) "deferring" admission for my S to Oberlin Conservatory. It is such a relief just to get an answer, now he can move on with his other auditions, etc. Thanks to all who responded, hopefully someday we will be able to add S's name to the "acceptances" column.

SimpleLife, welcome. I'm a bit confused by your post #28.

It appears your son has confirmed acceptances to both Oberlin and Gettysburg/Sunderland. Congrats to you both.

I assume your waiting for results at SMU, TCU, and UNT pending audition results; is that correct?

Based on how long this list can get (see the last post of the '08 Acceptances List here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1060444933-post487.html) it's preferable to limit it to posting acceptances as they occur, rather than list all schools where applications are in process.

I've entered Oberlin & Gettysburg acceptances below. The others can be added once acceptances are in hand.

Hi violadad. Sorry for the confusion. I was saying that my son was accepted into all the schools I listed. TCU and UNT don't have auditions until later, but he has already been accepted into the schools and recieved merit awards at each. I didn't know whether to list them or not, because he hasn't been heard or accepted into the music school of each university yet, but he has been notified of acceptance into each of the schools I listed. You're saying I shouldn't have listed them because the associated music schools haven't accepted him yet. Also, BassDad was right -- he has auditioned and been accepted into SMU and their Meadows School of Music, for vocal performance.

SimpleLife, thanks for clarifying. BassDad added the SMU music acceptance that I missed. Just post the TCU and UNT music results when you've heard about the music decision.

Yes you are flexible, but machines are less so. Should anyone ever want to write software that parses our format, it helps them if we remain as consistent as possible.

"Capitalizing to keep poster's name appearance consistent with profile (Fendermom)..."

So, just to raise the pickyness level a tad, shouldn't you be spelling her name "FenderMom"?
