If one is not going to get accepted at a school, will a notification letter be sent out, or is it assumed that a no-reply by April is taken as a no? Does this vary by school?

I’m asking because son scratched the last audition trip on his list, due to already being accepted in his top choice school, and we agreed because of losing too much time in his HS classes, plus music commitments here, and I could see lack of R&R was leading to getting sick. I called and let the school know that he was cancelling, and they offered to accept an audition taping, which we worked on and sent in. Haven’t heard anything back and I don’t know if notification for a submitted audition taping is treated differently than a live audition. Guess I should call and find out.

The school should not just leave you hanging and should contact you with either an acceptance, a rejection or an offer to go on a wait list regardless of whether the audition was live or recorded. They should do so by April 1, but some schools can get a week or two behind that. If you do not hear from them by what would be a normal USPS delivery time for you after April 1, then I would suggest calling.

Last year, we started to get lots of Oberlin Conservatory notices in the acceptance thread around March 28. I don’t know if they are ahead of or behind that date this year though.

Was told on Tuesday that letters would be mailed on Thursday and Friday of this week and that any emails would go out right after the letters were mailed.

We were told (in early March by the director of admissions at Oberlin Con) that they were hoping to get them in the mail on March 25th.

A post at the general CC forum for Oberlin College (dated yesterday, the 23rd) says that the head of admissions told him notifications would be sent out the 24 and/or 25th (but the poster doesn’t indicate how recently he received this info).

A rep from Oberlin College, a rep said on the 22nd that notifications would be mailed out on the 28th (email if living abroad), and that the con usually sends notices out “within a day or two of the Arts & Sciences mail date.”

@BaritoneDad - super; Manderan was the one who wrote to me in early March, saying he was hoping to send them out March 25th. Glad to hear he’s right on schedule!!!

D was accepted to Florida State University - vocal performance.

We were told the letters were all printed last week, and the web site said the decision were made last Wednesday (March 16) but finally got the letter today in snail mail.

Still waiting on Western Michigan University - those should be mailed this friday March 25th.

Congratulations to brightonpratts and daughter.

geo1113, I am going to assume by “passed his audition” that you mean he has been officially accepted. Congratulations to you and your son, if so. If not, please let me know.
