Master List of Music School Acceptances, Fall 2011

My son was accepted to the following schools for a BM in music composition/piano:

NYU Steinhardt
Carnegie Mellon
Berklee College of Music
Boston Conservatory
Chapman University
Cal State Long Beach

Rejections: several

Anyone have any ideas about which college he should go to?

certainly depends on what kind of music he wishes to compose and what he wants to pursue performance wise , but Berklee does have some of the most extensive and wide-ranging composition options i’ve seen

Congratulations to ClassOf2015Mom and son, and once again to agmom and daughter, and to allegrovivace.

ClassOf2015Mom, I am going to put the Carnegie Mellon acceptance down as a BFA instead of a BM because I believe that is what they offer there. Please let me know if I am wrong.

D accepted for BM Jazz Performance (voice) at the Peabody Institute via email

Congratulations LGSMom and daughter.

Hi, can you please consolidate results for mezzomom and mezzomom11 under mezzomom11 as they are one and the same. Many thanks!

Got it. Thanks.

Accepted at NEC—BM Composition
Accepted at Peabody—BM Composition
Accepted at Boston Conservatory with an 8k scholarship based on my audition—BM Composition

I’m going to put this aside and give myself a day before I have to deal with this deluge of pleasant information.

You are correct BassDad - Carnegie Mellon’s music composition degree is actually a BFA - I’d forgotten - thanks for the reminder!

accepted to peabody violin performance

max, congrats. Can you specify an instrument? And once again, congrats to thelovelybones.

theloveybone … congrats … I remember when you first started posting and now it looks like you have quite a few nice options. To many of you here, Cheers!

Classof2015Mom, if you go back to posts 708-710 within this thread, there’s a couple of suggestions and a link that may help you start to make heads or tails about choosing. There are some specific items of import that are more a concern to comp majors than instrumentalists or vocalists and if you would start a new thread much like bassdad2 has done, I can point you in a couple of directions, and potential sources of info.

slidemama, congratulations. When you come down from cloud 9, if you wish us to post the full scholarship, we’ll need a dollar amount or your best estimate. We could ballpark it from the website, but without knowing if it’s full tuition, or a complete full ride including housing and fees, we’d only be guessing.
