Master List of Music School Acceptances, Fall 2012

Congratulations to soprano93 on the decision.

@BassDad, I agree with your comments on the total costs and how difficult they are to caculate…my only point was, don’t be enamored by a large dollar amount to a private college when it still leaves you with a huge out of pocket bill. Don’t get me wrong, Stanford and Harvard don’t come cheap by any means, and if your S/D gets in the school of the dreams, I hope you find a way to afford it…but it’s not all about the dollar amounts being offered in scholarship. I have found several private colleges that have a “standard” scholarship they offer just about everyone…

StoneMagic - Actually Harvard and Stanford for a middle income student is usually significantly - and I really mean significantly - cheaper than their state school. For us a school like that would have been cheaper than living at home and going to a community college - because of their substantial financial aid for those earning all the way up to 200K. The trick is getting in (or convincing your son/daughter to apply - mine refused :))

I mentioned on another thread, but not here, that my D has been accepted by Eastman and Jacobs School of Music (voice) as a grad student. While she’s deciding where to go, I’m trying to figure out how to cover the deficit left after scholarships. She received scholarships from both that will cover close to half of total costs. When it costs $40,000 - $45,000 a year to attend a school, that half full hole is still a lot to fill. I think she’s leaning towards Jacobs.

My daughter was accepted as a Music Education major (instrument = voice) at SUNY Potsdam - Crane School of Music!

Congrats jingobingy, this might be a discussion for another thread…or PM me, but has your daughter asked if there are any grants available outside of what was offered?

Got an unexpected email today from NYU/Steinhardt for a $10K music scholarship, for a total, now, of $23,260 combined. This has thrown the household into a bit of an uproar.

Any one know of a situation where an acceptance has been declined, and then later successfully reversed? Once we thought we had all the information, and made a decision, we thought we should decline the others asap, out of politeness, in case any of them still have a chance to realllocate scholarship dollars.

The guy who sent the email was very responsive, and apologetic for not getting it to us sooner. He said we should call admissions first thing Monday morning.

I’d say we have a pretty good argument.

D received scholarship offers a couple of weeks ago from CU Boulder (full tuition scholarship - in state) and Jacobs School of Music at IU ($10,500 music/$8000 academic). She will be attending Jacobs.

Trumpetdad, I think you have a great case. Congrats–and good luck!

KnittingGene, Is your son going to SFCM or NEC? We are in the same situation, trying to decide composition program of SFCM, NEC, and MSM. Probably will see you and your son somewhere.

Congratulations to jingobingy and daughter, ryeellen and daughter, TrumpetDad and son and musicohana and daughter.

jingobingy, more information please. What major, instrument (or voice) and degree are we talking about here? I will list the amount of the scholarship as well if you care to reveal it, or can also add it into the totals anonymously without associating it with your screen name.

TrumpetDad, that is a difficult situation. There is certainly no harm in asking if you can reverse your decision. As you have discovered, hopefully not the hard way, you need to make sure you have a school’s best offer before turning down an acceptance.

Congratulations to Srchin4schls son who, as posted on another thread, has been admitted to Berklee. Details hopefully to follow.

These are my kid’s talent awards. All are per year.
Lawrence $18,000
Indiana

Did not mean to post before. My kid’s talents awards are-per year- Lawrence $18,000, Indiana 12,000, Fredonia $1000 and Ithaca College 3,000. We are really thinking of Ithaca College because it might be the best fit. It will cost a lot. Are we totally nuts? Indiana would be a lot cheaper but we think it might be too big for him. This is so hard!

Prestodad - my son says he is currently leaning towards NEC but that comes with the caveat that changes have occurred before and might again in the future. I’d love to know what you all are thinking - I’ll send you a PM.

Congratulations on the talent awards to cellocompmom and son.

D accepted to –
Carnegie Mellon–BFA (unknown $)
Case WEstern–BA ($15000FA, no merit)
Lawrence–BS ($15000 music merit)
Univ. of Denver–BS ($15,000 music, $10,000 academic)
All performance, viola.

Congratulations to cookerdee and son. I did not see any BS in Performance programs at either Lawrence or Denver. Did you mean BM?

I got into:

St. Olaf - Music Ed/Voice- 7500k/year scholarship with money for lessons
Westminster Choir College - Music Ed- 15000k/year scholarship
Ithaca College - Voice Performance and Music Ed
University of North Texas - Voice Performance and Music Ed

Ran out of Luck with:

University of Michigan - Waitlisted- Voice Performance (Curriculum B) Program… which isn’t bad. They’re still interested in me, I didn’t have a good audition, and is is THE University of Michigan.

University of Houston - Rejected (which makes no sense)

yes. ( I was thinking about science for some reason, maybe because I saw the average starting salaries for engineering majors and some wishful thinking took over. just kidding.) daughter, not son.
