I’ve been away for a few weeks and just caught up on all the exciting news here. My son decided on Loyola New Orleans for Jazz Studies for both upright and electric bass and is busily prepping for orientation . Thanks to everyone who PM’d and helped, especially TrumpetDad who was so knowledgeable and encouraging. This is such a wonderful thread/tool, full of people who really care about these young musicians and are willing to share their knowledge.

I’ve recently found out that I’ve been accepted to Humber College’s Intro to Commercial Jazz program on Bass Trombone I’m sooo excited!

@SJRubio, not sure where Humber is, but congrats on being accepted to the music program. My S also plays Bass Trombone, scholarship to U of South Carolina…he can’t wait until classes start in August!

I will be attending Loyola University of New Orleans, majoring in Vocal Performance. I am actually in New Orleans right now attending Loyola’s new student orientation.

Thanks everyone for all of the great information you guys have provided.

BassDad:

I’ve never posted on CC, but information shared by you, ViolaDad and many others was INVALUABLE to me in helping my D research schools last fall and during the audition process, as well (clueless parent with NO music background needed mucho guidance!). The least I can do is report back and share our experiences for those who are right behind us on this journey. Please forgive me if I’m not sending this info in the right way.

D has decided to attend UNT as a vocalist/jazz studies major. She did NOT receive money from the music department, but DID receive $5,000 in academic scholarships, which was sufficient to earn her in-state tuition rates (we live in NC) and make UNT the best all-around buy for her to continue her pursuit of jazz.

She was also admitted to:

University of Miami–Jazz Studies (voice)–$8,000 scholarship from Frost
Belmont University–Commercial voice–$4,000 scholarship in music
Millikin University–Commercial voice–$7,000 scholarship in music

UM was her first choice, and she absolutely ADORES Larry Lapin at Frost (who is, I agree, a gem), but we could neither justify nor afford the nearly $30,000/year difference in the cost to attend Miami over UNT, so . . . it’s off to Denton she goes!

Thank you so much for the time and energy you devote to keeping up with this information and making it available for other parents of music majors (and the music majors themselves). It is a fabulous resource!

Be well!

Kudos, SJRubio (and Hoopstar and Shesings94!)!
I just wanted to let StoneMagic and anyone else who wasn’t familiar know that Humber College is in Toronto, Canada, and has IMHO a pretty exciting commercial jazz (and contemporary production) program.

Shesings and others congratulations!

Awesome shesings…both great programs and I agree a $30K difference in today’s economy certainly should be a deciding factor.

Hello!
My S was accepted to Westminster Choir College for BM in Vocal Performance…
Thank you for putting so much effort into this list - and congratulations and good luck to everyone!

^Posted in the wrong year’s thread - I tried to delete this one but was too late. S is candidate for Fall '13 Undergrad.

That’s OK, I got it and will add it to the 2013 list. Then I will ask the mods to lock this thread.

D has been offered a $3500 scholarship to University of Michigan.

S has been accepted to Eastman, Ithaca, CUNY Queens, USC, Peabody and BU for a BM in oboe performance. We are thrilled!

Please note that this is the 2012 thread, I have attempted to get a moderator to lock it to new posts but not had much luck contacting them. I will add the info to this years list, the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1427644-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2013-a-49.html

Thank you! Newbie mistake!

Do you have a list that includes the school and the amount of merit scholarship awarded?

It is complicated - my son attends the University of South Carolina on a Music Scholarship and receives both a significant tuition reduction AND a dollar award. I believe the tuition reduction adds up to like $50K over four years for OOS tuition.
