Master List of Music School Acceptances for Fall 2014

Traditionally, Eastman has been one of the schools which notifies later in the game but that has improved somewhat due to a change in administration. This is currently on ESM’s website:

The Eastman application process includes a thorough review of each applicant’s file following his or her audition/interview. The Admissions Committee makes decisions after all applications in each department have been evaluated. Undergraduate admissions notifications will be sent via email between March 1 and April 15. There is no early admission program at Eastman, and applying by Nov. 1 will not result in an earlier admissions decision. Undergraduate applicants normally receive notification of financial aid and scholarships concurrent with their notification of admission.

While I understand that Fullerton would like to know your decision as soon as possible, I’m not sure that they are allowed to apply such pressure. If you accept their offer and the scholarship and pay the deposit then hear favorably from Eastman, you’ll lose the deposit you paid to Fullerton and have a very rough going accepting anything ESM offers because of the NASM regulations. My advice would be to send a polite email to the Fullerton office explaining that you have applied to several schools and that, while you are flattered by their offer of admission and the funds, you do need to wait until you have heard from all of the schools before making a final commitment and that they will hear from you then. I don’t think that they can rescind the scholarship offer before the 5/1 deadline.
Let us know how this works out…

Not every college belongs to NASM-- it is a voluntary choice to abide by the agreed-on rules. I agree with MM, that you should contact them and explain that you are still waiting to hear back from other programs. Alternatively, you could accept and then withdraw at the risk of losing a deposit, but I am pretty sure they would prefer you do the former.

I was personally emailed on Feb. 25th that I was accepted to clarinet studio (Northwestern / undergrad / Dual Degree (BM) ) but was also told that I have to wait out few more weeks to see if the university agrees to accept me (Probably looking over the academics right now - it is all number game now)

Good news for DS–he was accepted to University of Michigan for the BM in piano performance!

Congrats, 88keysmom! How did your S find out? Email?

jinoLol- keep us posted on the news from NW please so that I can include the double degree.
88keysmom- your son is really on a roll!!

@Mezzo’sMama - Note that at Northwestern all students must be accepted by the University - it doesn’t matter if a studio wants a student or not - if they don’t pass academically they cannot attend. There was a very disappointed poster on this forum years ago. So hearing from the performance studio does not mean the student has been accepted, just that they’ve been recommended. (And it has nothing to do with a dual degree. It goes for all music students.)

Thanks for the clarification, SpiritManager. I’ll let the conservatory acceptance stand for now
since it’s too late to edit the list…

Thanks, Mezzo’s Mom! OneKidMama–my DS got an email from U of Mich with the official word. Seems there was a problem with his academic letter of rec not being received with the common ap, but once we got that re-sent, he got the official acceptance email.

It is not just Northwestern that has that policy of needing to also get in academically. Although clearly not as difficult academically Umass Amherst and University of Miami (Frost) are the same. I’m sure there are others.
Should my S be worried that he hasn’t heard anything from Bienen yet.

You can add my S for Umass Amherst Jazz Bass Performance (Duel Degree and Honors College)

D accepted to UMASS and Skidmore. Waiting also on Bienen and others. I haven’t heard of anyone else receiving any word from Bienen. Does each studio generally email the students? We were told we wouldn’t hear anything until mid-March.

I wouldn’t worry about not hearing from Bienen - what that poster heard was completely unofficial. And wishful thinking only, at this point. (But encouraging, no less, of course!) I believe you’ll hear the same time as students in the rest of the college - at least it was like that in my son’s time.

Thank you Spirit Manager - you did lift my spirits!

Yes, it’s important to remember that even though some posters on this forum may report hearing early about acceptance (from professors or other means) and it might seem like that is the norm, for the majority of applicants they will get the news at the same time as others do when all notices are sent out, even at the tippy-top schools. So there is no cause for alarm if someone else has heard before you because you just never know. And, the end is in sight now!–just a few more weeks of anxious waiting and we’ll all know.
