I live in Long Island, New York, but unlike the stereotype, I do not have a lot of money by any means. This means that cost is a pretty big concern.

Im looking for a good business school, but out of the SUNYs it appears that SUNY Binghamton has the only somewhat respectable business program

I have just recently applied to UMCP, UDEL, Binghamton, Albany, Penn State University Park, and UMASS for their sports management program which is supposedly tops in the country

here are my stats

90.5 unweighted avg which I have been told = a 3.8 on the 4.0 scale in my HS but im not 100% sure about that

1 AP in soph year (AP World = 3)

3 AP in junior year (AP US History = 4, AP English Composition = 4, AP Computer Science = 3)

3 AP in senior year (AP US Govt, AP English Lit, AP Physics)

Im in pretty much all of the highest level classes that my school offers

SAT I Scores

Math 700

Crit Reading 630

Writing 720

retook SAT in November and expect the math to go up to about 780 (unsure about the other sections)

never took SAT II's or ACT

Extracurriculars

Varsity Tennis 10, 11, 12

Travel Baseball + basket ball every year

Peer Tutoring 9

A World of Difference 9, 11, 12

SADD 10, 11, 12

National Honor Society

Spanish honor society

A few community service things, nothing major

I tutor, babysit, and have worked at a sporting goods store for the past year

What do you guys think my chances are at these colleges, and what other colleges do u think i have a good chance at which are good in business (keeping in mind that cost is an issue)

Actually 90.5 is the same as 3.55 UW GPA. However, your 7 APs need to be considered, along with the 2050 SAT score.

UMCP--Match to Slight Reach (closer to Match)
UDEL--Safe Match
SUNY Binghamton--Match
SUNYAlbany--Safety
Penn State University Park--Match
UMASS (Amherst)--Match
UMASS (Boston)--Safe Match

Of all of these--Penn State and Maryland are the best business schools, although as you pointed out the Sports Management Program is better at UMASS (Amherst).

what would be the average starting salary for someone coming out of the sports management program at umass? what does one in that field have the potential to be?

but are you all taking into consideration that it is much harder at most of these colleges to get into the business school than just the university in general? b/c I know that definitely has an effect on my chances...

Sports Management majors typically make next to nothing - as the industry has high demand and few jobs to supply. Typically the major makes 18-25K, if they are lucky enough to get a job in the industry.

If you are looking at SM check out SUNY-Cortland which has a solid program in the northeast.

well penn state you should definitely get in and it's probably one of the better, if not the best, that you've listed

you could always try syracuse if you don't think its too cold haha
or indiana university bloomington
or....wake forest if you wanna go for a school that's a little reachy...

right now I think that Maryland is probably my top choice, but I'm up for changes. I've always thought though that Maryland and Penn State were about the same, business wise.

This reason I haven't looked at Syracuse is 1) because it is private meaning more expensive 2) because its freezing up there

Have you visited the schools yet? I think you should visit Maryland and Penn State University Park. They seem to be your top choices. Everyone that I know that visits Penn State's campus loves it. The visits might help.

Ummm... I think you can aim significantly higher. Your SAT scores are competitive enough for NYU Stern, but that might be match, or slight reach (but very much worth trying!)

eh, I'm looking more for a campus style college than NYU. Thanks for the suggestion though, do you have any other ideas of colleges I could get into?

Plus I heard NYU doesn't give good financial aid, which is a must for me
