I am currently getting credit for math 191 because of my AP scores, and am considering taking the Math 192 orientation test to get credit for that course as well. I am going to the Engineering School, btw.

I'm wondering if that is a smart idea and just how difficult the test is? If I study, it'll probably be about 2-3 weeks of cramming of all the information I need to know of the course. I probably won't have a strong handle on the subjects covered, but maybe enough to pass the test.

My question is, is it vital to know things in Math 192, that you would need in the next math courses? Will it end up hurting me in the next class, making it insanely difficult? I'm worried, if I push too far ahead freshman year, I may crash and burn from the difficulty. But then again, I don't want to "stay behind" just to play it safe...

Also, how difficult is the orientation test?

Have you taken multivariable calculus in high school? If you're planning to cram all of MAth 192 material in 2-3 weeks and you've never seen it before, that is a very bad idea. Future classes, like Phys213 expect that you have a solid foundation on multi if you want to do well.

If you have taken multi in high school and can probably review in 2-3 weeks, then I recommend taking the test and seeing how you do. As long as you are not borderline on the test result, then you can skip 192

IOf I got a 5 on the AP Calc AB (which to my understanding, is equivalent to math 191), should I take math 192 (equivalent to BC?) or try to skip out of it?

Math 191 is equivelant to Calc BC

Math 192 is equivelant to Multivariable Calc

Trust me, unless you've actually taken an entire course of multivariable calc in high school, you don't want to go placing out of Math 192

I took multivariable calc for two years in high school and I still took 192. I'm glad I did. I would not recommend trying to skip it.

I got a 5 on the AB and the BC test...but honestly, i don't really remember anything from both the classes. I took BC junior year and for senior year i didn't take any math courses. I placed out of 191 and was wondering if going straight to 192 was recommended or if i should take 191 anyways. If i decide to take 192 and determine it's too hard, how hard is it to switch classes to 191?
