Math 1B is full ?!(*)$##*@)$

Waitlist for math 1B (the section I want) is full! How likely can I enroll in the class during adjustment period?

ugh I hate telebears.

You’ll probably get in. Can you not get in any other section? Math classes generally aren’t that hard to get in to, especially 1b. The problem is though a teacher may just flat out tell you to join a different class if there are multiple teachers for the class.

Math 54 is full too, including the waitlist lol

110 was full last week, but they opened up another section. just eye the OSOC for the next few days/weeks and hawk down when that next section opens up.

oh I meant the lecture, not dis sec.

then you might need to consider the other 1b classes taught by other professors. Had you been on the WL for the class (even very high), you would probably have made it in. Depends on if the sections will open up/people drop out (and a lot do), but there’s always the risk that you don’t get in if you wait.

i ended up getting on waitlist for Borcherds’s lecture. I’ve heard that 50% of our grade comes from homework and quiz, which sounds pretty nice… How about his midterms and finals? Are they doable (if did a lot of practice ahead) or they’re just impossible?

You won’t regret Borcherds. haha. I had him and I really don’t think 50% comes from hw and quizzes (that would be quite unfair) lol. You have 2 middys and a final. You should do a lot of problems and if you understand how/why you got the answers that you did, you’ll be fine. Some of his problems (he even admits this) are straight from the book with just different variables. (Don’t expect like half the test to be from the book, but do expect one or two problems). You get a cheat sheet as well, which is definitely helpful if you completely freeze up.
Don’t go in expecting an easy class, however.

Thanks Batman:) Did you end up getting a decent grade then?

I got screwed with a B+? lol I thought I had done well enough on midterms (beat the average on both of them, although by only 3 points on the second one, which is only out of like 30 or 40 and had a really low average because it was pretty tough) and final, but I was probably overestimating sadly. My GSI was super cool though. hah

Oh man, I think I’ll be happy with a B+ for Math 1B. I’m waitlisted for Borcherds, too.
