My daughter just got her Math 2 SAT2 Scores back from the May 2017 test and she got a 790 which I thought was great. She said the report says that she did better than 76% of the people so now she is thinking of taking it over to try and get an 800. I think it’s a waste of time. How is 790 in the 76th percentile? Can someone tell me what is a good score for the SAT2 Math 2 test if you want to go to a top school?
The percentiles for that test run low because all of the kids who take it are very good students who are good at math. She’s not in the 76th percentile of the entire high school population. She’s in the 76th percentile of a very selective group of students.
A 790 in any subject – including Math 2 – is fine. She doesn’t have to try for an 800.
^^^ Agree completely with @Marian
Marian is correct.
Another vote for @Marian As an FYI, an 800 is an 80th percentile for the reasons mentioned. For the same reasons, an 800 in Korean is 60th percentile.

Not only is it fine, it is excellent. The 10 points will be the difference between an acceptance and a rejection at no university.
Thanks everyone for the quick and informative replies!
Waste of time to retake. Spend time on more important matters
^ Or less important matters. Go see Wonder Woman. Go swimming. Whatever.
My daughter took two Subject Tests at the end of 10th grade (one of which was Math 2). She got 790s on both. Her reaction was, “Oh, good, I’m done with this.” That’s appropriate.
