Math 54 and Econ 101A

I'm planning on taking Math 54, Econ 101A, Stat 21, and another filler course next semester. I'm an econ major, 2nd year. Im taking Math 53 and Econ 101B (and 2 filler courses) right now.

I was wondering how difficult this course load would be.

If you like math and are good at it, that course load should not be too hard or time consuming (basically like three math courses).

If you intend to go to graduate school in economics, perhaps consider Statistics 134 instead of 21. See [Preparation | Department of Economics](Preparation | Department of Economics)

If you get Grunbaum for 54, you’ll have an abnormally high amount of homework.

That is my schedule this semester. Except I’m taking 100a. So far it’s not too bad although I heard that 54 gets more intense towards the end of the semester.

If you get Grunbaum for any class, you’ll have a fun time.

^Indeed. In fact, I’ve had SO much fun with his homework problems on Cramer’s Rule and the Gram-Scmidt process.

I look forward to the Differential Equations part and its even more involved computations!

Grunbaum’s hw for 54 is actually very reasonable…just saying…you can expect ~20-30 problems per assignment, and they are due on monday and friday.

Yeah, but in upper divs, I think it’s 10 per week instead of 20-30 every half week.

Well I plan on taking Stat 134 as a junior because I heard it is difficult, and I at least want to make sure I get into the Econ major first. That’s why I’m taking Stat 21 first. Would you suggest otherwise?
