Math A, Math B, PreCalc, Calc, AP Calc

In junior high, I was unable to take the advance math test to skip a semeter in high school. So in high school: From Freshman to Junior year I took Math A and Math B.

People who did take the placement test in jonior high and passed, skipped the first term of math A. So in high school, these people did: From Freshman to Sophomore year , they took Math A and B. Junior Year they are taking Pre-Calc, Senior Year they are taking AP Calc.

So, what I was thinking about doing was skipping pre-calc and going right into calc. But do you think it is better/will look better on apps if i skip precalc, calc and go right into AP calc??

ty

But will you be ready for the the AP calc class? You might have to do a lot of studying on your own to catch up.

You don't have to be accelerated in math to get into college [unless of course math is your passion] but if you are very focused in another subject, then it is not necessary to AP calc

kk ty

i think i would be able to catch up.

It's not necessary to take AP Calculus in high school. Like Sozo said, unless you're pursuing a math/science career in college or planning on applying to MIT, Caltech, and the like, would I deem it necessary. Otherwise, you're better off without the burden.

I am majoring in business.

pre-calc is a waste of time...mostly a regurgitation of math b material. save a year and go straight to calculus. i wish my school offered that option last year.

hth

so you dont think I should go to ap calc with a major in business? Is it going to look significantly worse?

My school doesn't offer Pre-Calc. Students generally go from Math B to AP calc AB. Hurray!!

Well in my school is it AP Calc BC

I agree..... I studied precalc this summer and passed the exam which was really easy.

What exam did you pass? And with what material did you use? A book name and author would be nice.

it was a Precalculus placement exam ( which was basically the same exam which the regular precalc students in my school would take ) ... I used the book called Precalculus by Michael Sullivan 3rd edition

I have friends that are in the same situation as you. They did MAth B Junior year and are skipping pre-calc and going to AP calc AB this year. I suggest you do AB because it may be easier for you. But you'll still be able to do BC as you won't need precalc for either class. Precalc is just advanced Math B stuff.

lucky U had a chance to skip ahead we were forced to b ahead.. my old school is a year ahead in math it sux!! MATH B was made for 10th-11 graders not 9-10th i took Math A second half of 7th grade and full year of 8th grade!! IT SUX personally MAth A and B r the hardest math ever im so glad i take Math B over again this year at my new school b/c I did realllly bad...no i didnt fail out but im like a year ahead in everything i did basically bad in so im doin those classes over again in my new private school!

the worst thing is about wat this is w/ this IS at my public school if u passed all ur math classes u had a chance to not take math 12th grade so that wolnt b happening(TEARTEAR)

How can you not do well in Math A and B? They are like so easy!! By the way, what school do you go to?

I dont know what Math A and B equal in Texas math subjects.....but its usually not smart to skip class like that

I concur..

Okay, well an update: My school did not have room for math B people to go into AP Calc therefore the highest level that people like me (math B) people could take is calculus. Do you think I should talk about that in my application?
