Math and Business Double Major

Hello,
I am a student going into freshman year into Indiana University as a DA to Kelley. I am currently in the process of creating my first-semester schedule. I am interested in business and math but I am unsure of what exactly I want to major in within the fields. I was wondering how realistic is it to double major in math and business at IU?

To major in math and business you’d need a double degree! It would likely take a lot time since you would need to fulfill all Kelley requirements and all math requirements. For instance, Kelley doesn’t require you to take a language (just a world culture class is fine), but the College of Arts & Sci does.

I think time is the most important thing to consider if you really want to major in both. There are also probably certificates or minors you could do instead.

assuming you come in with at least 40 AP credits (hopefully 5 on BC), its not a terribly hard process, just remember these things that I didn’t know when I was a freshman:

-M303 (Linear algebra) can cover the finite math credit needed
-M365 (Calc stats) covers kelley stats requirement

Overall, be prepared to do classes that count for two pre-reqs, like the religious studies classes count as A&H and World Culture credits, so do those. Also, ur first summer is likely going to be filled with classes of graduation requirements (as I did) if you want to graduate in four years/have semesters with like ~17 credits.

Do you have any career goals, because if you want to be in something like the IBW math is really a waste of time but it could be helpful in like data analytics/bus analytics or some other highly quantitative area of finance. Don’t hesitate to send questions as it’s a pretty hazy topic that only a few people really know about.

Do they have a combined major? Several schools are offer a interdisciplinary major with math / business, CS/ business, or engineering/business. Essentially you’re getting a degree in both and the business aspect is quant heavy. Data analytics, stats, modeling/coding, etc.
