Math Diagnostic

I had the AB, and hopefully BC, score necessary for placement in calc courses at BU, but I decided to take the pre-calc diagnostic/final exam anyway.

I found the scoring to be kind of terrible.
Score ranges of 0-12, 13-21 and 21+ in a test out of 35 is pretty vague.

Anyone else take it, find it easy? 31 after Ab and BC wasnt great, and I wish I knew what I got wrong.

is that math majors? or where is this

im in CAS. It’s for everyone.

Search BU math diagnostic in google and you should find it. One hour, 35 question multiple choice test much like a pre-calc final.

It said you should take it before orientation.

I’m confused about this diagnostic. On the diagnostic link for Stat it says “If you receive a 4 or 5 on the AP Statistics Exam then you receive credit for MA 115”. However, on their AP policy pdf, http://www.bu.edu/admissions/files/library/media/advanced_credit_guide.pdf</a>, it says scores of 3,4, and 5 are acceptable for placing out of MA 115. Which one is it?

Oh, it’s for CAS, ENG has it’s own test.

So if I took AP Calc AB then I shouldn’t take the Pre-calc Diagnostic test right? I’m pretty sure I at least got a 3 on the AP exam.

Just take the test no matter what. Your AP scores get you out the college math requirement, but you still have to take 2 semesters of Math/Computer Science during your 4 years at BU. Placement tests are nothing to stress over.

Actually, if you get at least a 3 on the BC, you get course credits for two calculus classes and do NOT need to take any additional math courses. Likewise, if you pass the AB, you get credit for one calculus class, and then you only need to take one math/compsci course.

Also, if you took the SAT II in Math and did well enough (I forget the score, but if someone needs it I can look it up), that will satisfy the general math requirement.

Does that apply to each school? Looking at the requirements for SMG, I only see the need for one calculus-based course.

Yes, the 2 math/compsci requirement is for CAS. COM requires 1 math/compsci/science, SMG requires a couple things (I know they’ve got Statistics in there too), and so on.
