So i received my SAT II score for Math 1 and got a 740
On the regular SAT i scored a 760 Math 740 reading and 780 writing

Do i need to retake Math 1 or is it imperative to take Math 2 (and do better) to get into MIT

no, you don’t need to retake, but you might well do better on math II

Don’t worry about it; anything above a 700 looks good, and while if you have the chance to take math II you could do better, math I is acceptable (I took math I with a 760 and got in, anyway)

yup, the math II curve is much more generous than math I. take math II if you’re taking more subject tests; you will most likely get 770+.

You’re in the 700s, you’re fine. Focus on other things.

^^^ seconded.

I took Math II and got a 740, and I’m applying to MIT.

Should I take Math 1 because I know I’d get an 800 or should I chance it and take Math II?

Take math II. Believe it or not, it’s easier to get 800 on Math II than on Math I. That’s because II is much more curved. I’ve known people who are geniuses and make extremely careless mistake (just one) on math I, and the score drops hard.

In general, I hear that Math I is significantly harder than Math II for top applicants because it focuses more heavily on algebra / geometry, which most juniors aiming for top schools took several years previously.

Additionally, you got a 7xx - if you’re done with the rest of your subject tests, save your Saturday and go to the park instead :)

I like parks… :)

I got a 700 on Maths 2 and I’m at the airport, going to MIT. Don’t worry about it.
