Retake Math II or Take Math I for MIT?

I took Math Level II and got a 740, and I want to apply to MIT.

Should I retake Math II and try for a better score or take Math I, which I am confident I will get an 800 in?

And should I send my scores directly to MIT or view them first, because the deadline is November 1 and I would get the scores back October 29, which is 2 days before they are due?

I would recommend taking math 2, and I wouldn’t be quite so confident that you’ll get an 800 in math 1. The curve for math 1 is much steeper and if you get even 1 question wrong, or leave it unanswered, you don’t get an 800. As long as you know the material (ie, you’ve taken pre-cal) math 2 is significantly easier to score higher on.

^ I agree.

Okay thanks so much!

Math IIC. The curve for that test is MUCH more lenient (you can get a raw score of 42-44 and still get an 800 on that test).

And try to aim for 800. It might seem too much, but given where you want to apply (MIT), its a must. =P

yeah that’s what I was freaking out about. 800 here i come

it has been consistently stressed by the admission officers that anything above 700 should not worry you.

No, you are wrong.

Your 740 is fine. I order you not to retake it.

Alright everyone, I ended up sticking with my 740. Thanks for all your input!
