Math placement exam

hey does anyone know if you would still have to take the math placement exam if you have ap calc credit? i know that the exam is probably pretty easy, but i still don't really feel like taking it!

I believe if you get a three or higher on the AP you don't have to take it.

I second what Emilay said and I believe it is written out on the UDel website.

My question is a little different: I'm taking Calc II at a local community college over the summer after having done AP Calc (ie Calc I) at my school. UDel has already agreed to accept credit for both Calc I and Calc II provided I earn a C- or better in Calc II. So, do you think I need to take the placement test? I don't think so but haven't called teh advising department yet...

if i'm understanding correctly, you did not take the actual ap exam (but the course) and are taking calc 2 so it will give the credit for ap + calc 2.. i'm taking 2 this summer too except i did the ap- kind of pointless to have taken it now that i think about it ( i didn't know you could do that!)--
anyways, i'm going to call to find out if i should take the math exam because i don't have an ap score yet (just took).. frustrating because i'm sure that i got at least a 3, as it is for you because it's not like you are going to fail calc 2!
i'll post what they tell me- i have a feeling that neither of us have to take it, but will have to wait for scores/grades to come in before registering for the appropriate level math course first sem.

gah,
told me to take it anyways because the scores aren't in. i don't think i'm going to though because i'm not doing science/math so i don't need math first sem. if they yell at me when i go to register i'll deal.

They told me to take it... I think it's kind of BS.

They said because I don't have the credit for Calc 2 yet, they can't sign me up for Calc 3... doesn't make any sense because during your fall semester you sign up for the spring semester without having credit for those courses. Whatever. So, I'll be signing up for Calc 1 and then changing during the drop/change period to Calc 3. Stupid, but that's the rules!

Did you all get the Calc placement test? I didn't cover some of that stuff in AP Calc AB but it was pretty easy to figure out with a book... thoughts?

agree that it's bs.. i got a thing in the mail and it seems like everyone has to take it regardless of whatever.

the thing that i was wondering is if i should be taking the calc placement exam because i want to keep taking calc next year although my major doesn't require the calc exam. i just know i will show up at delaworld and they'll be like no sorry because i didn't take it. still haven't done the basic one yet...

did the calc placement go beyond the curriculum of calc bc? i'd be surprised if it did.

also have to change my delaworld date- hoping that won't be too much of a problem.

No, I took AP Calc AB... not BC. Do we have to take the regular math placement if we're taking the Calc one? I didn't think we did.

do one or the other-- if your major is chem, physics, etc. you just take the one in the mail, if its english, art etc. you take the one online

The online placement test was really easy.

I took the Calc one and it wasn't too bad although I did reference my book once or twice. I just couldn't remember implicit differentiation...

On a side note I just got a 100% on my first Calc II test!!! WooooHoooo! That's 1/4 of my final grade!

I took the placement exam this morning. Some of the questions freaked me out at first, but I skipped them and when I came back to them later I was able to figure them out. I only left two blank, one pre-calc and one trig question. Placed in level VI so I was freaking out over nothing.

Haha exactly. Nice job.

I wish there was a way to meet other people who are going in the fall. Cause so far, there are only about four of us who post here.

Ya I know. I wish more people would post.

I've just been lazy and haven't gone to this site for awhile....but hi! I'll be going. Nice to meet you :)

Hey, i'm going too. my orientation is the 29th. really excited...

Nice, same day as mine.

that was my original date too, but now i have july 19-- all the classes are going to be filled!!! are we supposed to bring the rents along to this thing?

and i love how insanely easy the online placement ended up being after putting it off until 9 oclock the night of the 15th..

mine's the 19th! I didn't feel like missing my college classes to go to orientation so I switched as well. I hope courses won't be filled yet... I hadn't thought of that!
