Math Placement Results

Hello everyone,

So I'm going into Stony Brook next year with the intentions of majoring in Physics, unfortunately I really messed up on the math placement exam and ended up getting a 3, putting me in Intro to Calculus (precalc). However, a lot of the suggested courses to take freshman year as a physics major have a corequisite of at least Calculus A, which I would be taking during the spring semester. Am I in a really bad situation in terms of being behind other intended physics majors starting off with calculus by a semester? Would it be beneficial to me to take the necessary classes next summer in order to catch up by sophomore year? I just really need some other inputs.

You can catch up by taking summer classes. Just plan effectively.

Most physics students either place out of 125 or start at 131.

You can retake the math placement exam I believe it was up to 2 times a year. Though only try if you think you can do better. How to schedule a retake I am not sure of however.

As a side note of amusement, my friend took the test while high, he got a 1(later a 5). Now that’s really messing up :P
