has anybody taken it and if so how was it cause i havent done anything math related since early may??

I took test D and didn’t think it was too bad and I didn’t prepare at all. There were about 3-4 tricky ones that really test your skills but if you have a TI-84 or similar, you should be fine.

Packalldwy–can you estimate what portion of the test D questions are analysis vs. Trig vs. Algebra? Did u have enough time, or was time tight?

I wouldn’t worry about the difficulty or how much time available…the whole point is to see where your placement should be. Too much practice or studying may result in being placed in a higher level that the student may not truly be prepared for.

From what I recall, there were about 4 or so trig questions and lots of algebra (varied in difficulty).

I finished with roughly 18 minutes left and scored well.

Packalldwy and OSULolz, thanks. OSULolz, understood, S doesn’t want to place above his abilities and struggle. Issue is our HS uses a block system and thus he took algebra 2 as a freshman in 2008 and analysis/trig first semester 2010–quite some time ago. He just completed Honors Calc last semester Sr. year and got straight A’s. He just doesn’t want to repeat pre-calc level classes because the placement test is on info learned over 2 years ago. Clearly he can handle calc level work. Its an odd situation… he has to take placement test in next few days, orientation is 2 weeks away. It is what it is. Thanks again!

Math is very challenging for my daughter and her act math score was 25. She was placed into college Algebra. Maybe this will help.

Good reference mspearl, here’s mine too:

High school: Freshmen = Geometry, Sophomore = Algebra II, Junior = None, Senior = “College Math” which was below Algebra II

ACT: 32 on math

OSU math placement: Pre-calc (Math 150)

I thought my Math placement was perfect as I had not yet taken pre-calc

So, S finally took the placement test scored an M. He was hoping for L for Calc, oh well!

OSULolz, question, S is a pre-business major and really wants to get accepted into his major in Fisher ASAP, so must pull a 3.0 to get in after freshman year (I think?). He doesnt want math to get in his way. He is wondering if he should do 150 then 151, or 130 and then 131 to fulfill his math requirement. I suggested maybe he should discuss with the math department when we are on campus July 9th-10th. He wants to take the cleanest path, so perhaps a candid discussion with the math department before he meets his business advisor to schedule courses would make sense. Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks and have a great 4th of July!!!

The minimum requirement for Business is the 130 series…I have heard that it’s supposed to be a bit easier than the 150 series. Taking 130/131 would be fine. (Although I thought you had to take 132 as well)

However, if he has any doubt that business will be his major, I would go with the 150 series. If he switches majors to one that requires more Math, 150/151/152 would transfer over, while the 130 series will only count towards business. However, if he is set in business for sure, then there is no reason to go with 150.

Based on this, 132/152 (1131/1151) is required as a minimum: http://www.cob.ohio-state.edu/undergraduate/academics/degree-requirements/

OSULolz, thanks. He is quite bummed Any scoop on best or worst 130 and 150 profs? S did say 151 is basically what he just completed Sr. Year, so maybe staying with 150 is best. LOL
