Math SAT II-Worth Taking?

Do we need to have math placement test scores when we attend CTOPS, or can we wait for AP Calculus AB scores later in the summer? There are only one or two more chances to take the Math SAT II, so I'm considering just waiting until my second semester at Carolina to take math at all. Does anyone know what usually happens to students in this situation?

It depends on when you sign up for CTOPs. If you are signed up for the earlier ones, you might want to go ahead and take it. If you go to a later one, you probably don't need to take it.

The math department is pretty lax about signing up for classes. Unlike the chem department which will not let you sign up for any upper level chem classes until your AP scores come in.

Thank you so much! Do you think they'll go ahead and let me sign up for math without it? It is only a few days away from my AP Calc exam and AP Lit exam, and I just want to keep from taking another exam, that's why I ask.

Do I have to take it? Can't I just say I'm bad at math (very true... 600M SAT score) and take the lowest level course?

I'd guess so, but wouldn't you rather take a course you're really interested in instead?

But what about other placement tests? My IB language scores won't come out until July, and the only CTOPS session I can make is the first one on June 1-2....

Maybe we should just take math our second semester?

If you are even thinking about a Chemistry or Physics major, or you want to be pre-med, you are really gonna want to have the Math SAT 2 or AP Calc scores on hand (meaning before CTOPS).

Otherwise you aren't allowed to sign up for Chem 101.

The Chem sequence for pre-med includes 2 inorganics, 2 organics, and at UNC you also need to take an Analytic Chem to meet med school requirements. All that, plus 4 labs. And that's only the chem requirements. You're gonna want to get started on the chem sequence first semester if you're thinking pre-med.

As a side note, all that above is equal to a chemistry minor. Not something I was planning on, but it kind of fell in my lap.

Is it required to take the Math II subject test? I'm not in Calculus, but am not planning to be a science major (probably Business).

I am planning on being a journalism major and am currently enrolled in Calc 1 now with an A average. Should I take the SAT II or wait for the AP Test?

Hey, I want to be pre-med at Carolina as well.

However, I am about to take a semester of AP Calculus AB and take the AP exam.

Should I take the Math II Test?

Yes. (10 char)
