Mattress dimensions in the hovse

It seems they are very reluctant to divulge these!
Can anyone share with me his/her experience in dealing with Uparents.com, the so-called "California Institute of Technology
Residence Hall Linens Program, Specially-sized linens guaranteed to fit and guaranteed ‘til graduation."

Thanks.

My understanding is that as long as you buy "extra long" twin sheets, they'll fit the beds at CalTech. You don't need to buy from that program.

Actually, even normal-sized fitted (or unfitted!) sheets work gasp.

Well-kept secret.

Thanks, Ben! That sure makes shopping easier!

Thank you all for the info.
My mom wants to hand-make the sheets for me. Anyone willing to take the trouble of measuring it for me please?

Sheets? You guys sleep with sheets? It's California! :)

hey, r the mattresses comfy there or do students get padding to put on them or something? ben, do twin fitted sheets fit? i wanna kno the measurements too, so i can make sure evrything fits.

O_O!

So why all the claims to the contrary?

Hmm, I only had a short ruler to work with, but I got:

6'5" x 3'2"

Give it plus or minus 10% uncertainty on each value. ;)

I hope you propagated your error correctly!

silver-yms, thanks for the numbers. I have every faith in them!

Have you ever been to summer camp? That's what the mattresses are like. Personally, I like putting a foam mattress pad on top to make it more comfortable. As Ben said, the normal twin fitted sheets fit.

(By the way, this is a public forum, not an IM chat -- please use correct spelling. It makes it so much harder when messages have to be interpreted rather than read.)

my apologies, alleya. but i have to say in my defense that ppl always use such abbreviations in these forums. so, i thought it was perfectly acceptable to use them in posting.

i would have thought that students, especially Caltech ones who are purported to have such logic-oriented minds, would be able to quickly decipher what was being said.

um alleya u dun no wat u r talkin bout dis be im chat wat is currekt spellin

jus cuz u go to tek u thinkz u is smart but u aint dun messs wid mee

P.S. Alleya come check out the aimchat caltech10 sometime... it's like an IM chat WITH correct spelling :P

thanks a lot, silver!! i can go shopping with ease now :)

GirlCalais, don't worry. I would assume Alleya was simply intending to help you, although I will admit that it sounded a little... not nice? I mean I can't say for sure, but in other posts Alleya seems nice. :) I do agree with Alleya that properly formatted text is much nicer to read, but I'm not the internet police so feel free to do whatever you wish.

My sheets aren't good enough for Caltech? ArghhhhhScrewItI'llFindANOTHERSCHOOL!!!!

Oh, I definitely didn't mean to be rude -- that's just the downfall of online posts, you can't tell someone's tone. I also wasn't trying to insult your intelligence (though apparently, you decided it was necessary to insult mine) -- I just assumed that you didn't realize the audience for your post.

This forum is read by high school students, college students, and parents. I think if you look around this forum, you'll notice very few people use abbreviated spelling, and those that do are easily identifiable as high-school students and not regular posters.

alleya, you didn’t mean to be rude but, you just were.
Be reasonable: the number of people doing it or not doing it has no bearing on its rightness or wrongness. I certainly respect your entitlement to express your view. However, please refrain from being authoritative by picking on a pre-frosh. Make an effort to go over your subconscious supremacy; you have an important role to play.

Karen

alleya's original message: "By the way, this is a public forum, not an IM chat -- please use correct spelling. It makes it so much harder when messages have to be interpreted rather than read."

That hardly seems like an unreasonable request, especially considering the subsequent explanation for it. It's ridiculous to assume the worst of someone (or the ambiguous tone of a message)- all the more so when that someone has contributed as much to these forums as alleya.
Perhaps I just can't understand what's so offensive about asking someone to not mutilate the English language in their posts...
