is 4 the max number of recs we can have? I mean, i think having 4 recs brings out my personality and ambitions.

There is no max, but 4 sounds like a lot.

I got by on two-- two from teachers I really liked. Unless you feel like a third and fourth rec will really, really, really help you in a way that the first and second won't, I would advise against it-- there's really no reason to send it in, and it doesn't seem that admissions decisions ever hinge on these additional recs.

Well, if you have a special talent in art, drama, music, or something like that, I could see how an extra rec would help. Like I could get a bunch of humanities teachers to write me sterling recommendations, but that'd be a waste of everybody's time. One from a field is enough, I'd say.

the thing is i think my 4th teacher accidentally sent in one into U of C

also would it hurt to send in 4? what should I do??

It's not going to hurt you, but it's a bit redundant, I think. I could be disagreed with on this one. As long as you're not sending in twenty, I don't think they are going to mind.
