May 2011 SAT CHEM

the question asked which of the following is one mole of atoms
so it had to be A (helium at stp) because all the others came up to 1 mole of the molecule rather than 1 mol of atoms for instance 32 g of o2 is one mol o2, however it is 2 mol of individual oxygen atoms

All diatomic molecules are nonpolar, because they are linear. It was CE. For molecular geometry, any molecule that has linear geometry is always nonpolar.

Noo!!! I read the question wrong. ;__;

its not CE. HCl and HCN are polar and linear.

Yeah, I remember that. It had Pb2+ and 2I- going to PbI2. It gave .05 mol Pb2+ and .2 mol I- and asked which of the following quantities of PbI2 could be formed:

I. Not sure
II. .05 moles
III. Avogadro’s number

II was definitely right, III was definitely wrong, but I forget about I.

HCl, HCN, etc. are linear and polar.

oh that one. it was 23 grams. I put 1 and 2 lol

Sorry, in my last post I meant to write atoms and not molecules.

Uh what’s this ionization/oxidation state question you guys are talking about?

Yay, I put I and II as well!

How many TTCEs did you guys get?

which can be predicted via electron config?
I. ionization something
II. mass number
III. oxidation state regularly
3 is def. right, 2 is def. wrong, not sure about 1 but think its right(electron dispersions can be seen in orbitals)

actually…not sure about 3…there are exceptions. Argh :__:

@Abrayo

that ionization one was one of those roman numeral ones. it asked “Which of these can be explained using electron configurations?” I. Ionization Energy II. Oxidation State III. Atomic mass (not sure about the order) and it was IE and Oxidation only.

and i got 4 TTCCEs but it has been relatively agreed upon that there were only supposed to be 3. i suck at those.

^I was ionization energy, I think. I know I was definitely right, II was definitely wrong, and III I was iffy on. I picked I and III.

I got 3 TTCE.

I put I and II for the PbI2. .05 mol=23 g.

Good, I put IE and Oxidation state as well.

Damnnn I put 5 TTCEs. I suck at the T/F section as well!
Anyone remember what the TTCEs were? Maybe I actually put a CE for the linear one . . . I hope not . . .

I got either 4 or 5 TTCES >__> aw man :/

Basically, this is what 2 of them were:

–Hydrogen only absorbs certain wavelengths of light; Energy is quantized in hydrogen.

–When a few drops of HCl is added to the battery apparatus shown above (a battery partly in distilled water), it will conduct electricity; HCl is a strong acid that will dissociate fully into H+ and Cl- that will conduct.

For what it’s worth, 104 and 105 were TTCE. The HCl one was like 109 or something, and the quantization one was either 104 or 105.

is the oxidation of Cr in Ag2CrO3 6+?

^ Yes, I got that.
ALMOST put 12.

Darn, I don’t know what other CEs I put.

Did anyone else get a long run of Ts for the second part of each T/F?

^Yes, I remember getting a bunch of T’s for statement II on the second part.

ya i did. do u guys know what 7 wrong would be

i dont know if anyone remembers but were the last 2 answers to the MC D and D
