May-2012- Biology (E/M)

What was the answer to the question about some substance rushing into the guard cells in a plant? I think I said something about them increasing in size because of osmosis. I was pretty iffy though.

Did the deciduous have the word TEMPERATE before it

So one option for the question about colonizing species coming before pioneer species was they adjust the soil pH or make it inhabitable… Which one?

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

Yeah, K+ going into guard cells would lower water potential, so water would rush into the cell b/c of osmosis.

I don’t think it was either o_O; Adjusting soil pH doesn’t make any sense, and making it inhabitable… then how would the pioneer species even exist?

there was this one question about colonizing species. Was it the slime mold? I put that becuase lichen are pioneer organisms that come after colonizing species

@Swedish yes it had temperate before it
And isn’t the purpose of pioneer organisms to make soil thus making it more inhabitable for plants?

wow 3 skipped 6 wrong and counting LOL anyone want to guess my score from this? -___- cancel time

Okwhoa, what is wrong w/ me. I am reading everything wrong today D: Yes, it was inhabitable. For some reason, I read that as colonizing inhibits pioneer.

Agreed pandaman >:(

Wait, can someone confirm what the pioneer species question was?

Was the answer choice, TEMPERATE grassland or TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS!?

Cuz I’m pretty sure I chose one with the word TEMPERATE in front of it…

It was temperate deciduous forsure. Temperate grasslands don’t have any shrubs or trees b/c bison and horses are always grazing.

For everyone who’s feeling bad about their score today, here’s a little story. So about 15 minutes into the test, the girl who’s sitting next to me closes her test booklet, puts her head down, and goes to sleep. Now I know she’s taking the bio test because she had asked a question earlier about whether she should take E or M. I just figure she’s given up and doesn’t care about her score. At the end when the test is over and we have to write the dumb little statement about now cheating ect ect, I glance over at her answer sheet and she’s only answered the lat 20 questions, the M ones. So I guess she thought it was only 20 questions and she was just amazingly fast. So hey, at least you’re not that girl!

The pioneer species question was definitely lichen. Here’s a quote directly out of the Barron’s Bio Sat II book: “lichens are often the pioneer organisms, the first to colonize a barren environment in an ecological succession.” Page 174, for anyone who has the book.

Omg guys. How do you study for those experiment based questions!?
The barrons had NOTHING on those. I got screwed over so badly today. I think I missed more than 10…the ■■…

in the campbell reece text book
it talks about vertebrates using skeletal structure in order to move from water to land
could this mean it was backbones that allowed vertebrates to adapt to early terrestrial environments?

No. Its deifnitely. Lungs, Amniotic Sac, KIDNEYS.

U must have LUNGS for terrestial colonization

What was the answer for the CORN/PH one like…“which of these statements is demonstrated by the experiment”

A) plants use starch to grow
B) watch causes plants to grow
C) the seeds are metabolically active
D) the light is adequate as plants are allowed to grow
E) the low light DIRECTLY causes the seeds to grow

Those are in EXACT order as the test.

what about the defective digestive enzyme bacteria question? what did you guys say?? I think i picked the organism is more susceptible to mutation!!
