May SAT 2011: Writing Section

123412: Can you explain? The paraphrased sentence I wrote there is grammatically correct, so telling me that “instead of” is the error doesn’t help me much.

What was the answer to the very last grammar one about choosing between: because I narrowed it down to two answers and it almost killed me… I’m sure I chose the wrong one.

Did anyone else have one or two when the original sentence was correct. Not for the identifying errors but for improving sentences

@interificio can you be more precise? I need more context to figure out which sentence you’re talking about/

@sidthekid yes i definitely had 2 or 3 of those!

@Interficio

The answer to the one with choosing between was… “and getting”

Between is always followed by the structure “between X AND Y.”

choose between _ing AND _ing

choose between _ing OR __ing

were the two options I narrowed it down to. It was the very last question in the last section.

Gericana - In the full sentence I’m pretty sure there was an “also” in there - the scientists didn’t want one or the other, they wanted both.

Of course I could have messed up! But I went through the “difficult” ones pretty slowly and I think I got it right.

you mean that one that was “between x and y”?? that was the answer not the “between x or y”…

WAIT. IT WAS AND? YES. That makes me so happy!

guys please, what did the sentence about Louis Armstrong say?

something about his band Hot Five - It was middle of the section - No error

… “with the band known as the hot five” was what I remember… known was the last possible error underlined.

argh! I can’t remember… it seems like I won’t be able to get 800.

i agree with all of sweetpuri’s no errors.
also, is it settled that '

I chose that one because the others weren’t really transitional options…

Did anyone have a writing experimental? One that talked about Shah Jahan/Taj Mahal… was that one experimental?

@sauternety36

For the improving paragraph question? Yes, “Indeed, scientists now believe” is likely the correct answer. It provides the best transition between the two paragraphs.

@Interficio

Hmm, I don’t remember having a Taj Mahal question, probably was experimental.

^i got a writing experimental too - i remember mine had roman empire as one of the no errors. and the guy talked about some immigrant person in the improving paragraph

"i agree with all of sweetpuri’s no errors.
also, is it settled that '

Two of my sections had roman-related sentences… do you mean the story about jiminez story about immigrants and how the guys could relate because of his parents?

which writing wasn’t expirimental
