May SAT 2011: Writing Section

one of the last two you mentioned had an error. I can’t remember which one it was… can you provide the sentence?

^I got only 2 no errors and they definitely were not four at all… they’re either 2 or 3.
hmm, I tried to move it after sentence 7, but it still would be a redundant form of phrasing the sentence, I mean like, the use of “study subject of” or whatever was wordy that I thought changing it to “about” would be a better answer choice… :confused: eek.

@nader when i moved it i thought it fit well…maybe i’m wrong? I remember spending a lot of time on that one and i moved it and was like yeah that makes much more sense, hence why i moved it lol!

and btw i think i had 3 no error.

What was the experimental? I absolutely bombed one section and aced another.

@satlover do you remember which three answers were no errors? I only found two.

The one about energy conservation was something like “Many scientists/environmentalists believe that instead of (in addition to?) searching for new ways of generating energy, we should try to improve the efficiency of existing energy sources.” I know that isn’t even close to the exact wording, but that’s the gist of it. I didn’t look over this one as closely as I did the other no error questions.

@Genericana
there was one that had an ambiguous pronoun,they, and it was an answer choice I’m not sure if that’s the one you’re talking about…

how about uncle’s voice?

^huh? can you be more specific.

“uncle’s or that of someone else…”

@Satlover

I posted this before but here are the 3 No Errors:

Louis Armstrong

Meyer Lemon

Corn Oil French Fries

Also, for the question with the girl and her suitcase… the answer was (A) were she to take…

^
yes! 10char

I got those three no errors! For the uncle’s voice one, can someone explain why it owuld by that of someone else instead of someone else’s (which I chose so it would paralell uncle’s)

@sweetpuri ugh i put b! i knew i got that one wrong. and the uncle’s voice is “uncle’s voice and that of…”

@nader look at sweet puri’s three those were my 3 no errors.

@genericana i don’t recall a question like that?

I think it was followed by a “that” or “who” clause, which could only modify “someone else,” not “someone else’s.”

@Interficio

The answer is “the voice was her ‘uncle’s or that of someone else’ with a German accent.”

The answer is not “the voice of her ‘uncle’s or someone else’s’ with a German accent.” Although it appears to be parallel, the structure is incorrect because the antecedent ‘that’ must precede ‘someone else’ to indicate a reference to the voice…

““Many scientists/environmentalists believe that instead of (in addition to?) searching for new ways of generating energy, we should try to improve the efficiency of existing energy sources.””

YES. “Instead of” was the error.

Omg. Its not Uncle’s or someonE else’s because the apostrophes are incorrectly used.

what did the sentence about Louis Armstrong say?
