May SAT II Biology E/M

" I’m pretty sure all the ones where you listed letters were just three. "

i second this

" I’m pretty sure all the ones where you listed letters were just three. "

i second this

^ Think I got that too.

yes, the tree one is 0.9. i remember seeing this in my PR book…

and i agree with this: “I’m pretty sure all the ones where you listed letters were just three.” :)

ehh, i thought this test was okay, considering i took it without really studying…

i crammed last night in ecology just in case the molecular section was hard. and i definitely agree with the person who said ecology was pretty much common sense and basic ecology knowlege…

humm… i was also glad to NOT see any major organ systems questions besides for a couple, because i was panicking last night after realizing organismal biology constituted 30% of the test (in my mind this meant organ systems/hormones/glands/functions galore)…

yes, the tree one is 0.9. i remember seeing this in my PR book…
^
I guessed that. xD

I’ll fourth that sentiment :)

@cribelle

yeah, it was a practice question in PR that i missed, so i remembered it haha…

what was the answer to the structure that doesnt have a membrane?

for the ear question the answer was the one that had the basilar membrane in it… i think it was A

what was the answer to the structure that doesnt have a membrane?

nucleolus

here are some other answers, comments???

Classification
First Group
Mitochondria presence = eukaryotes, but not prokaryotes
Plasma membrane = all
Cell wall = plants, but not animals
Ribosomes = all

Second Group
Chance of having a girl = 50%
Number of generations to get AABB and aabb mix to have 9:3:3:1 phenotype ratio = 2
Number of gametes possible from AaBb = 4
Number of chromosomes of fly cell right before mitosis (haploid number = 4) = 16

Third Group
Mother passing antibodies to fetus = passive immunity
the clumping of anti B antigens with type B blood = agglutination
Release of histamines = allergic reaction

Last Group
Pyruvic acid = glycolysis
Lactic acid = fermentation

Mother passing antibodies to fetus = passive immunity
the clumping of anti B antigens with type B blood = agglutination
Release of histamines = allergic reaction

^
I think the other one was antibodies by getting sick or something along those lines…active immunity

Compile of Other Stuff

Zygote Section
Type of organism = angiosperm
Process from Stage 1 to 2 = mitotic division
Which type of human disease = cancer
Presence of auxin = enlargement of cells only (II only)

Food Web Section
Hawk = tertiary consumer
Shrub/grass = most energy

Questions I have to ask:
What was the answer to the one where why does respiration rate decrease at hour 3 in the 0 degree Celsius one: was it lower temperature=lower reaction time or enzyme hydrolyzes
What was the answer to the one where it asked what type of thing (classifcation) where a person had the smallpox virus before and could now fight it off? (passive immunity or acclimation or something like that0
What was the answer to the colon (function) one?
What causes the presence of new alleles (sexual reproduction, random mating, mutation, natural selection)

@ NeRd:

 1. enzyme hydrolyzes is the more direct and therefore better response
 2. active immunity
 3. water reabsorption
 4. mutation

can anyone explain that answer? that seems to be the only question on this board that I got wrong.

^
For the Zygote thing, the type of organism was a flowering plant. It’s also an angiosperm, but the offered answer was a flowering plant. Scared me for a minute, haha. I thought I missed another question!

The function of the colon was to reabsorb water.
And mutation causes new alleles

marcopchen, its cancer because the image with both auxin and the other hormone showed a clump of manymany cells (alot more than the normal amount). cancer is when the cell reproduces endlessly

why is it enzyme hydrolyzes instead of low temperature=low reaction rate?

Apparently lower temp is the answer…not hydrolyzing of enzymes…

what did ppl say for the ltt question (it was a pesticide or something). Also, whatabout the eardrum question?

oh phew, okay
for the second group in classification, were there only 4 questions? or were there 5…haha
